About

Taxi 2 for PlayStation is a single-player driving game developed by DC Studios and published by Ubisoft for the PAL market in 2002. It is an adaptation of Gérard Krawczyk's French film Taxi 2, rather than a sequel to Sega's Crazy Taxi series. The game puts players in the role of Daniel Morales, the extraordinarily fast Marseille taxi driver at the centre of the film, and translates its action-comedy premise into a sequence of time-sensitive road missions.

The PlayStation version follows the film's story through nine progressively harder scenarios. Each task asks Daniel to get a passenger or reach a destination under pressure, turning the city streets into an obstacle course where speed alone is not enough. Early situations include taking a pregnant woman to hospital, while later missions draw on the film's police-and-kidnapping plot involving a visiting Japanese defence minister. The campaign's structure makes individual sequences feel like compact driving challenges rather than one long uninterrupted race.

Driving is viewed from either a first-person or third-person camera. Players steer with the directional pad or analogue stick, accelerate with Cross, reverse with Circle, brake with the shoulder buttons and can use a dedicated turbo control. A horn is also available, while the PlayStation release supports vibration through a DualShock controller. These straightforward controls suit the game's emphasis on threading a taxi through traffic, changing direction quickly and keeping enough momentum to meet mission demands.

The route through Taxi 2 moves between representations of Marseille and Paris, two cities closely associated with the movie's comic misadventures. Daniel's white taxi is the only playable vehicle, keeping the focus on the film's central driver rather than a garage of selectable cars. The PlayStation game also incorporates video material from the film to introduce missions, connecting the driving objectives to the licensed story and its characters, including Daniel and policeman Émilien.

Once scenarios have been completed, their courses become available in arcade mode. This alternative turns unlocked locations into urban-rally duels, whereas story mode presents the nine film-inspired missions in sequence. Taxi 2 therefore offers two complementary ways to play: a campaign built around specific dramatic setups and an arcade option for revisiting unlocked circuits. As a late PlayStation entry released after the earlier PC, Game Boy Color and Dreamcast versions, it is a distinct DC Studios adaptation of Ubisoft's Taxi 2 licence.
