About
Persona 2: Tsumi is Atlus's 1999 PlayStation role-playing game, known in English as Persona 2: Innocent Sin. A direct follow-up to the original Persona, it moves the series to 1999-era Sumaru City, where a group of students discovers that widely repeated rumors can become real.
Tatsuya Suou, a reserved senior at Seven Sisters High School, is drawn into the crisis alongside classmates and allies with links to the first game. Their investigation centers on Joker, a masked figure who grants wishes and spreads chaos while accusing people of an old, forgotten sin.
Sumaru is explored through its districts, shops, and dungeons from an angled overhead view. The Rumor system lets the party turn selected gossip into reality through the Kuzunoha Detective Agency, opening up effects such as new services, equipment, or developments in the city.
Battles are turn-based, with a party of up to five using weapons, items, and their Personas against demons. Each Persona has its own strengths, weaknesses, skills, and growth, so choosing a party's abilities matters alongside standard attacks and healing.
Conversations with demons can earn items, establish contacts, and yield tarot cards. Those cards are used in the Velvet Room to summon and assign additional Personas, while coordinated commands can trigger Fusion Spells that combine multiple characters' abilities into stronger attacks.
The original PS1 version was released in Japan and was not officially localized for Western territories. Atlus later brought an enhanced version to PSP, while Persona 2: Eternal Punishment continues the story from a different perspective.
