About
Lemmings & Oh No! More Lemmings for PlayStation brings the original Lemmings and its Oh No! More Lemmings expansion together on one disc. Developed for this version by Distinctive Developments and published by Psygnosis, it presents 209 single-player puzzle scenarios from the early Lemmings releases in a PlayStation conversion rather than a new sequel.
Each stage begins as a stream of lemmings marches out of one or more entrances toward whatever hazards lie ahead. The task is to get the required number safely to an exit before time runs out. Left alone, the tiny walkers will continue forward, turn at solid barriers, and walk straight into drops, traps, water, or other dangers, so a route must be planned while the group is already in motion.
The player assigns a limited supply of eight jobs to individual lemmings. Climbers and Floaters help them survive walls and falls, while Builders make staircases and Blockers turn the crowd around. Bashers, Miners, and Diggers carve through terrain in different directions, and a Bomber can clear a small section of landscape at the cost of that lemming. The puzzle is deciding which worker to change, when to do it, and how to make every scarce skill count.
The compilation draws on the original game's Fun, Tricky, Taxing, and Mayhem difficulty groups as well as the expansion's Tame, Crazy, Wild, Wicked, and Havoc sets. Its 209-level total means it is a curated PlayStation package of the two games rather than a complete preservation of every stage from every earlier edition. The steadily rising demands on rescue percentages, time, release rates, and available abilities turn familiar rules into increasingly exacting problems.
A controller-driven cursor replaces the mouse interface of the computer originals. The directional pad moves the cursor, shoulder buttons scroll the view or cycle through skills, and the face buttons select and apply an action; the game also includes pause, fast-forward, and the option to detonate the remaining lemmings when a solution has failed. The conversion keeps the two-dimensional side-view play intact while adapting its controls and music for the console.
Progress can be saved to a PlayStation memory card, making the long sequence of puzzles practical to tackle over multiple sessions. Earlier versions of Lemmings featured competitive split-screen stages, but this compilation's 209 scenarios are the single-player puzzle content. As a result, it is best understood as a console collection focused on the core skill-assignment challenge and the additional Oh No! More Lemmings level sets.
