About

Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return for PlayStation is a colorful action-adventure platform game from Whoopee Camp, released in Japan in 1999 and in North America in January 2000 by Sony Computer Entertainment. The sequel to Tomba! reunites players with the pink-haired wild boy after the Evil Pigs return to menace another land. When a message from the flying insect Zippo reveals that Tomba's friend Tabby has vanished, Tomba heads across the sea to find her, undo the pigs' curses, and restore the troubled countryside.

The PlayStation adventure mixes platforming, exploration, light puzzle solving, and an extensive chain of quests. Tomba moves through three-dimensional locations, but many action sections follow directed paths that branch at intersections; flashing arrows show the routes available. Other places switch to a freer-roaming perspective for talking to residents, investigating surroundings, and pursuing tasks. This combination lets the game move between precision jumping and a more exploratory pace without losing the oddball, storybook character of the series.

Tomba's basic moves are built around athletic jumps and his signature biting attack. He can leap onto enemies, latch on, and throw them, while an Animal Dash helps him build speed and make longer jumps. Weapons found during the journey add other attack options, and quick equip makes it possible to change weapons during action. Jumping on and biting enemies also charges the magic gauge. As Tomba captures the Evil Pigs responsible for the land's afflictions, their robes grant themed magical abilities that consume this stored energy.

Clothing and equipment provide another layer of progression in Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return. Special outfits can change how Tomba approaches obstacles: Bird Clothes extend his time in the air, while the Pig Suit provides an aerial hip attack and has additional uses to discover. Health begins at four units, can be restored with food and other recovery items, and may be increased over the course of the adventure. The game also supports the DualShock controller, including analog movement and optional vibration, while signposts throughout the world double as places to save to a memory card.

The Adventure Event System records the many errands, discoveries, rescues, and environmental problems that arise across the quest. Completing events earns Adventure Points, which open marked treasure chests, and the Adventure Journal keeps items and active events organized. Conversations, signs, and careful observation are therefore as important as combat. In Free Roaming Mode, Tomba can explore in 360 degrees without enemies, though he cannot jump or use weapons there; the mode is intended for safely checking locations and following up on objectives.

The setting continues the first game's playful conflict between a vibrant rural world and the mischief of the Evil Pigs. Tomba is accompanied by Zippo and his tough friend Charles, while his search for Tabby leads through towns and areas altered by the pigs' magic. The original Japanese PlayStation release arrived on October 28, 1999. North American players received Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return, while the PAL release is known as Tombi! 2; these regional names all refer to the same Whoopee Camp sequel.

For the series, the game preserves the original's event-driven adventure design while presenting its world with fully polygonal PlayStation visuals and changing camera views. It remains a single-player journey centered on connecting clues, acquiring useful gear, opening new routes, and ultimately confronting the Evil Pigs behind the crisis. Players familiar with Tomba! will recognize its unusual blend of action and quest progression, while the sequel supplies a new continent, new equipment, and a fresh mission for its energetic hero.
