Uta no Prince Sama : Music 2

About

Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC2 for PlayStation Portable is a Japanese rhythm-action game released in Japan on September 5, 2013. Published by Broccoli and developed by Nippon Ichi Software, it is the second stand-alone music-game spin-off from the Uta no Prince-sama franchise. Rather than continuing the series’ romance-adventure format, MUSIC2 collects its musical challenges into a dedicated PSP package built around the franchise’s idol performers and songs.

Each song is played by matching button presses to bars as they arrive in time with the music. The controls use the PSP’s Triangle, Square, and Cross buttons together with the directional pad, making timing and maintaining a streak the central test. Before a performance, players can select a song and adjust options including difficulty, level, and whether character voices are enabled. Seven songs are available at the outset, with additional tracks opening according to performance results; the complete game contains 33 playable songs.

The song list reaches beyond the music games that appeared in earlier Uta no Prince-sama adventures. It includes material associated with Uta no Prince-sama Debut and later games, tracks from Shuffle Unit CDs, and songs heard in the Maji Love 2000% television anime. This makes the PSP release a focused showcase for the franchise’s vocal music, with individual and group performances tied to its idol cast. Players hear on-the-spot character reactions through the combo voice feature, which changes the feedback around a successful—or broken—run.

Progress does more than expand the track selection. Strong results on many songs unlock reward scenes, ranging from light character exchanges to more intimate voice-focused moments, while repeatedly playing individual tracks opens newly written Memorial short stories. These stories are presented from the idols’ points of view and can be revisited after they have been added to the in-game bookshelf. The structure gives score-chasing and repeat plays a clear purpose outside of simply improving a personal result.

MUSIC2 also lets players personalize the presentation around the rhythm charts. Playing songs earns MUSIC POINT, which can be spent on character costumes, performance backgrounds, note-frame backgrounds, and effects. Background and frame choices can be combined independently, while additional costumes become available through play. A system-partner feature allows a chosen idol to speak during menus and settings, and eventually adds the music-loving mascot Onpu-kun as another usable character.

For players seeking tougher charts, the Challenge Corner offers PRO-mode versions of rhythm-lesson songs used in Debut and All Star. The PSP release also supports optional data installation to reduce loading during play, an accommodation for its larger collection of music and voice material. MUSIC2 followed the first Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC as a compact rhythm-focused branch of the broader multimedia series, presenting its songs, performers, unlockable scenes, and customization systems as the main attraction.
