About

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for PSP is Konami’s handheld football simulation for the 2007–08 season, released in early 2008 after the main console editions. Part of the long-running Pro Evolution Soccer series, it carries the international PES name while the Japanese release belongs to the World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2008 line. The PSP game is closely related to the PlayStation 2 edition rather than the separate Wii, DS, or high-definition console versions, bringing club and international football, licensed player likenesses where available, and the series’ tactical, team-focused approach to Sony’s portable system.

A match is played from a broadcast-style diagonal view, with the PSP’s analogue stick or directional controls moving the selected footballer. The face buttons cover short passes, through balls, crosses and long passes, shots, sprinting, player changes and defensive challenges. Possession depends on building attacks through movement, timing and passing rather than simply racing toward goal. Players can choose formations, alter team instructions, set pieces and line-ups, then take control during tackles, clearances, goalkeeper situations and the final shot. Button configuration and difficulty settings let players adapt the controls and challenge to their own style.

The package offers quick matches and penalty competitions alongside longer League and Cup play. Master League provides the career-style centrepiece: players can begin with a chosen real club or construct a side around the mode’s default squad, compete through seasons and shape their team over time. Training and edit functions support practice and customisation, while the PES Shop uses points earned through play to unlock bonus content. The roster reflects the period’s football landscape, although licensing means that some clubs, leagues, crests or team names are represented differently from their real-world counterparts.

This PSP edition has features tailored to portable play instead of being a straight copy of every other PES 2008 release. Its World Tour mode presents a progression of scenario-based football challenges, giving individual matches objectives beyond a conventional fixture. The game also includes a substantial training mode and supports local wireless Ad Hoc matches between nearby PSP systems, allowing friends with their own copies to play head-to-head. Saved replays, formation information and an option file can be kept on a Memory Stick, while the in-game playlist editor can use compatible MP3 files stored on the system’s memory card outside matches.

One of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 PSP’s most distinctive connections is its PlayStation 2 data link. With the relevant PS2 edition and a USB cable, players can transfer edited information and save data for Master League, World Tour, League and Cup play between the two versions. That makes the PSP release more than a reduced travelling alternative: it can serve as a portable continuation of a PS2 campaign. For players interested in a late-2000s football game built around direct control, team management and local multiplayer, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on PSP captures a specific portable branch of Konami’s series.
