About
Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki the 3rd for PSP is Nihon Falcom's 2008 Japanese portable version of the story RPG originally released for Windows in 2007. It is the third and closing game in the Sora no Kiseki (Trails in the Sky) trilogy, within Falcom's long-running The Legend of Heroes series. Set six months after the collapse of Liber-Ark at the end of Sora no Kiseki SC, the adventure shifts its focus away from the earlier leads to Septian Church priest Kevin Graham and his assigned squire, Ries Argent. The PSP release arrived in Japan on July 24, 2008, carrying the Japanese title Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki the 3rd.
Kevin and Ries are drawn into Phantasma, an isolated, unnatural realm that recreates familiar locations from Liberl and brings together allies from the prior Sky games. The central journey combines a new investigation involving the ancient artifact known as the Recluse Cube with Kevin's personal history. Rather than simply retelling the prior chapters, the game uses its new protagonists and enclosed setting to examine unresolved events and expand the wider world. Returning characters join the expedition, making knowledge of FC and SC especially useful for following the relationships and story revelations.
Like its predecessors, the PSP game is a party-based Japanese role-playing game built around exploration, dialogue, equipment management, and turn-based battles. Parties encounter enemies in dungeon-like areas, select commands as turns arrive, and use physical Crafts alongside orbment-powered Arts. Character speed determines turn order, while the battle timeline can produce temporary effects that reward careful timing. The 3rd adds new Arts and Crafts, including powerful S-Crafts, and lets players assemble from the largest playable cast in the Sky series to that point. Different characters bring their own abilities to a chosen formation, so party composition matters both in ordinary encounters and major boss fights.
Phantasma's structure gives this entry a distinctive rhythm. Progress through its areas is accompanied by Moon, Star, and Sun Doors that open when their requirements are met. Moon Doors present longer character-focused episodes, Star Doors offer shorter scenes, and Sun Doors contain minigames. These optional pieces range from stories that illuminate the past to material that follows other familiar figures after SC, creating an extensive set of side narratives alongside the main route. The format makes the game both an epilogue to the Liberl arc and a place where supporting characters receive space beyond the main quest.
The PSP version is a Japanese release of the Windows original, developed and published by Nihon Falcom. It should not be confused with the later PlayStation 3 high-definition port, the PlayStation Vita Evolution remake, or the eventual English Windows localization. Falcom positioned this release as the portable third installment after its PSP editions of the first two Sky games. Its combination of a focused Kevin-and-Ries story, returning party members, dungeon progression, and optional Doors preserves the role the 3rd plays in completing the original Sora no Kiseki trilogy.
For players moving through the series in release order, Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki the 3rd on PSP provides the bridge from the events of FC and SC toward later Trails stories while remaining a self-contained Japanese PSP RPG. The game balances a linear central mystery with flexible party building and a large collection of supplemental episodes. That balance is the portable version's defining appeal: it delivers another tactical, turn-based adventure in Liberl while using Phantasma to revisit its cast, reveal new sides of its world, and bring the Sky trilogy to a close.
