About

X-Men Origins: Wolverine for Nintendo DS is a 2009 single-player action game from Griptonite Games and Activision, released alongside the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film. It is a separate handheld production rather than a scaled-down version of Raven Software's Uncaged Edition for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The DS game recasts Logan's adventure as a side-scrolling brawler built for the system's buttons and touch-screen stylus.

Players guide Wolverine through seven story levels of hostile bases, wilderness, and other locations inspired by the film's mutant-focused world. The campaign follows the character's pursuit of the people responsible for the Weapon X program and puts his adamantium claws at the center of every encounter. Stages mix forward-moving combat with platforming hazards, environmental obstacles, and confrontations against groups of armed opponents.

Combat revolves around close-range claw strikes and a growing selection of combos. Wolverine can slash through enemies, leap across gaps, and use quick-time events at key moments, while the Nintendo DS stylus is supported as an input option. Defeating foes and progressing through the adventure opens up further techniques, giving the game a simple sense of growth as its challenges become more demanding.

The handheld version also makes Wolverine's comic-book powers practical parts of play. His healing factor restores lost health after he can stay out of danger for a while, encouraging players to find a safer position when a fight turns against them. Wolverine can search for hidden scents and follow their trails to uncover unlockable combos, turning his heightened senses into a reason to look beyond the direct route. Hidden costumes provide another optional reward for thorough exploration.

Although it shares a title, characters, and movie-tie-in timing with the better-known console releases, X-Men Origins: Wolverine Nintendo DS has its own design and development team. It carries an Everyone 10+ rating in North America, unlike the more graphic Mature-rated Uncaged Edition, and presents its action in a less explicit portable format. For Nintendo DS owners, it is a compact Wolverine adventure that focuses on claws, traversal, upgrades, and collectible discoveries rather than the third-person presentation of the high-end versions.
