About

Uno 52 brings Mattel's card game to Nintendo DS in a 2006 release developed by Black Lantern Studios and published in North America by DSI Games. The DS edition retains the familiar colour-, number-, and symbol-matching turns of Uno, but reshapes each round around a 52-card poker theme.

Players still discard a card that matches the current colour or symbol, use Wild cards to change colour, and race to empty their hands. Skip, Reverse and Draw Two cards interfere with the table, while Wild Draw Four plays can be challenged. Forgetting to call Uno after playing a penultimate card can also be punished, and the system gives dedicated button shortcuts for calling Uno or challenging an opponent.

The title's 52 twist adds a poker hand to the usual shedding contest. A player can earn chips for going out and for holding the strongest poker hand at the end of a round; achieving both claims the accumulated pot. This makes each discard a choice between reducing a hand quickly and preserving combinations such as pairs, straights, flushes, or higher hands.

Quick Play offers a streamlined way into a match, while Custom Game exposes the options. Matches can be set as open-ended play, a race for chips, a target number of Uno, poker, or pot wins, or a Survival contest in which players with no chips are eliminated. The game supports two to four seats, computer opponents with selectable difficulty, and an optional team setup for four players.

House-rule settings can change starting-hand size, penalties for a missed Uno call, Draw Two stacking, Wild-card behaviour in poker hands, and whether a player may attempt an illegal Wild Draw Four bluff. Optional alternate cards expand the deck with Wild Reverse and Wild Skip effects, a Wild Symbol card, an All Draw Two that affects every rival, and a Joker designed to improve a poker hand.

Special Modes separate the format further. Challenge Mode presents preset objectives and later random challenges; Endurance turns limited chips into a score-chasing survival run; Timed Mode asks for the best result before the clock expires; and Solitaire adapts Uno 52 into a solo card puzzle. Theme choices let players change the table presentation before a game begins.

The DS uses the touch screen for menu and in-game selections, with the D-pad and A/B buttons available for cursor navigation, confirmation, and cancellation. R calls Uno, L challenges a missed call, Y challenges a Wild Draw Four, and Start pauses play. Groups can share one handheld by passing it between human players, while the DS version also supports wireless multiplayer for up to four players.
