About
The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer for Nintendo DS is a 2005 action-platform game from Helixe, published by THQ under the Disney/Pixar license. It continues from the closing situation of The Incredibles, with the Underminer erupting from below the city and setting a new underground scheme in motion. Rather than adapting the larger 3D console game directly, this Nintendo DS release is a side-scrolling adventure built around the complementary powers of Mr. Incredible and Frozone.
The campaign follows the two heroes through the Underminer's industrial hideouts, where robot forces, blocked routes, and mechanical hazards stand between them and their target. Mr. Incredible handles close-range attacks and the physical jobs expected of the super-strong hero, while Frozone's ice abilities create a different way to deal with enemies and obstacles. Their partnership is the foundation of the game: players can change between the characters during play to use the right power for the next task.
That switching is especially important in the platforming and puzzle sequences. A route may require Frozone to freeze water or form an icy surface, leaving Mr. Incredible able to reach a higher ledge or operate a mechanism. Other sections combine jumping, combat, switches, and doors in a linear progression through the base. The result is a compact Nintendo DS action game in which advancing through each area depends as much on choosing the appropriate hero as on defeating the robots in the way.
The story places the wider Parr family on the surface while Mr. Incredible and Frozone pursue the Underminer underground. As they move deeper into his operation, they confront robotic minions and the machinery supporting his plan, extending the confrontation introduced at the end of Pixar's 2004 film. The game therefore functions as a self-contained follow-up for the two playable heroes, with the Underminer serving as the central villain and the underground facilities providing its recurring setting.
The Nintendo DS version also supports a two-player cooperative option through local wireless play when two systems and two game cards are available. In that mode, each participant can take one of the heroes instead of managing both alone. This feature suits the character-pair structure particularly well, while the single-player mode preserves the same premise by letting one player alternate between Mr. Incredible and Frozone.
Although The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer appeared on several platforms, the DS and Game Boy Advance editions were developed by Helixe, separate from the console versions made by Heavy Iron Studios. The DS game uses its own 2D, stage-based approach and should not be confused with those console releases. For Nintendo DS players looking for a Pixar superhero adventure from the system's early years, it offers a direct continuation of the Underminer encounter through tag-team action, simple environmental problem-solving, and local co-op play.
