About

Summon Night 2 for Nintendo DS is a fantasy tactical role-playing game developed by Flight-Plan and published in Japan by Bandai Namco Games on August 7, 2008. It is a remake of the second main Summon Night game, which first appeared for PlayStation in Japan in 2001. The DS release brings the adventure back to the world of Lyndbaum as a single-player strategy RPG, retaining the series' combination of story scenes, character-focused drama, and tactical battles.

The story follows an apprentice summoner expelled from the Blue Faction. Accompanied by a senior disciple and other allies, the protagonist travels through Lyndbaum and becomes involved in a conflict surrounding a Saintess. That premise gives the campaign a personal starting point before widening into a fantasy adventure concerned with the protagonist's fate and the future of the world. The game belongs to the main Summon Night continuity, although its story is presented as its own adventure rather than simply repeating the first game's plot.

Battles are the strategic heart of Summon Night 2 DS. Players guide a party through turn-based encounters, positioning units and choosing their actions as the scenario unfolds. The series is built around summoning, and the remake's fights combine the party's normal combat decisions with summoned creatures. Between confrontations, the game returns to its narrative side, using dialogue and travel to develop the cast and move the adventure from one event to the next. This contrast between measured tactical play and story-led progression defines its fantasy simulation RPG format.

The Nintendo DS version is more than a change of hardware. Bandai Namco added a DS-specific Summon Communication feature, along with systems identified as Brave Clear and party abilities. New summon creatures were also included. These additions distinguish the remake from the PlayStation release while preserving its original role as the second numbered entry in the series. The dual-screen handheld presentation also made this earlier Summon Night story available in a portable form.

Flight-Plan's work places Summon Night 2 DS within a long-running Japanese strategy-RPG series known for its character designs by Takeshi Iizuka and scenarios by Karyu Tsuzuki. The 2008 remake arrived shortly after the Nintendo DS remake of the first Summon Night, continuing the effort to revisit the opening PlayStation-era games on the handheld. It was released in Japan, and should not be confused with the separately localized Nintendo DS spin-off Summon Night: Twin Age, an action RPG with a different story and style of play.

For players exploring the Nintendo DS library, Summon Night 2 DS is a portable remake of a Japanese fantasy tactical RPG whose appeal lies in its blend of party drama, summoning-themed strategy, and a campaign set in the wider Lyndbaum world. Its added communication feature, extra summon creatures, and newer systems make it a distinct version of the 2001 game, while its single-player focus keeps the attention on the protagonist's journey and the tactical challenges faced by the party.
