Poptropica Adventures brings the Poptropica virtual world to Nintendo DS in a standalone handheld adventure. Rather than duplicate the browser game’s online world, it adapts three popular Poptropica Islands for a self-contained quest with new challenges and storylines.
The Poptropica Museum has fallen into ruins, placing its exhibits at the center of the story. Players travel among three islands to locate missing artifacts, return them to the museum, and help restore its halls.
Exploration is built around talking with characters, helping island inhabitants, following clues, and collecting items. Puzzles and mini-games accompany the quests as players work toward artifacts needed for the museum’s themed exhibits.
The three exhibition halls represent Super Power, Mythology, and Astro Knights. Visiting their associated islands and assisting their residents provides artifacts and objects for the displays as the museum is rebuilt.
Avatar customization carries into this DS entry through clothing, hats, hairstyles, and other items. The Costumizer lets players gather items from Poptropicans’ closets for use in exhibition closets, alongside building a personal Poptropica look.
Developed and published by Ubisoft, Poptropica Adventures was released for Nintendo DS in 2012. It is a distinct game from Poptropica: Forgotten Islands, which arrived later on iOS and Nintendo 3DS.
