About

Pac-Man World 3 for Nintendo DS is a 3D action-platform game released by Namco in North America on December 7, 2005. Developed for the handheld by Human Soft, it adapts the third Pac-Man World adventure, which followed Pac-Man World and Pac-Man World 2. Rather than presenting a score-chasing arcade maze as its main format, this entry sends Pac-Man through an extended story-driven campaign of exploration, jumping, combat, and collectible hunting.

The crisis begins during Pac-Man’s 25th birthday celebration. Orson, the antagonist of the first Pac-Man World, abruptly transports him away from Pac-Land and explains that the scientist Erwin is tapping the Spectral Realm for energy. Erwin’s machines threaten both dimensions, and the resulting instability puts Pac-Man’s family, familiar ghost characters, and the wider world in danger. Pac-Man’s journey therefore follows a clear objective: find and destroy the devices sustaining Erwin’s scheme before the realms collapse into one another.

On Nintendo DS, players guide Pac-Man through 3D stages built around platforming routes, enemy encounters, switches, moving hazards, and environmental obstacles. Collecting pellets and fruit remains part of the series’ identity, but Pac-Man has a broader move set than his arcade counterpart. He can jump, punch enemies, perform a Butt-Bounce, and charge into a Rev Roll for traversal or attacks. These abilities make progression less about surviving a single maze and more about reading a level’s layout, reaching ledges, operating mechanisms, and dealing with threats along the way.

Power Pellets return in specialized sequences involving Spectral Monsters. Other powered pellet effects temporarily alter Pac-Man’s attacks, giving encounters a different rhythm from ordinary platforming. The game also uses pole-based movement and B-Doing launch points to vary its routes. Its stages reward careful exploration with hidden items and anniversary statues, while the story continually introduces new locations and hazards instead of relying on one repeating setting.

Pac-Man does not work alone. Orson provides direction during the adventure, while Pinky, Clyde, and other characters are drawn into the battle against Erwin. Several sections change the usual formula: Pac-Man can take control of Toc-Man, the giant robot associated with Orson, for combat against robot forces. These episodes give the campaign a mechanical contrast to Pac-Man’s standard on-foot movement and connect the sequel to characters and ideas established in the earlier World games.

Pac-Man World 3 is also notable within the series for giving Pac-Man full spoken dialogue, voiced here by Martin T. Sherman. The Nintendo DS edition arrived shortly after the home-console and Windows releases and was ported specifically for the system by Human Soft; it should not be confused with Pac-Man World 3 on GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PSP, or PC. The game was later included in a North American dual-pack release with Namco Museum DS, extending the availability of this handheld version.

As the final numbered Pac-Man World game, Pac-Man World 3 closes the trilogy’s run of character-action platform adventures. Its Nintendo DS release combines the franchise’s recognizable pellets, ghosts, and power-ups with a longer narrative quest across Pac-Land and the Spectral Realm. For players exploring Pac-Man’s mid-2000s games, it stands as a portable entry centered on platforming challenges, combat abilities, and a story that brings several World-series characters together.
