About
Nicktoons Unite! brings four Nickelodeon heroes together in a Nintendo DS action-platform adventure. Developed for the handheld by Climax Action and published by THQ, this version puts SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, Timmy Turner, and Jimmy Neutron on the same mission after an alliance of familiar villains threatens the energy of their separate worlds. It is the first entry in the Nicktoons Unite! game series, and its crossover premise is the attraction: characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, The Fairly OddParents, and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius share one original crisis rather than appearing in disconnected licensed-game stories.
The adventure begins when Plankton's activity in Bikini Bottom points to a wider plan. Jimmy's Universe Portal Machine has been copied by Professor Calamitous, who has joined Plankton, Vlad Plasmius, and Denzel Crocker in a scheme to drain power from the heroes' dimensions and fuel a Doomsday Machine. A message delivered through Goddard brings the quartet together in Jimmy's lab. From there, the story moves through locations tied to the cartoons, including ghostly areas connected to Danny's world, underwater Bikini Bottom, Dimmsdale and Fairy World, and an unusual mission inside Goddard himself.
The Nintendo DS release is specifically a 3D platformer built around controlling one hero at a time. Players choose and switch characters through the DS touchscreen whenever the situation calls for a different talent, a design that distinguishes it from the home-console editions, where the whole team is visible and computer-controlled companions follow the selected character. The handheld structure turns character selection into a regular puzzle-solving tool as levels combine enemy encounters, jumps, movable-object challenges, switches, environmental obstacles, and boss battles.
Each member of the team contributes abilities based on his series persona. Danny Phantom can use ghostly movement skills such as passing through designated barriers and reaching difficult spaces with a wall jump. SpongeBob uses bubble-based moves that help with traversal and combat. Timmy's fast movement and enemy-freezing power create other routes through hazards, while Jimmy supplies ranged attacks and rocket-assisted mobility. Progress depends on recognizing which hero fits the obstacle ahead, then changing to that character instead of treating the team merely as a roster of interchangeable cartoon stars.
Nicktoons Unite! uses its world-hopping structure to give the crossover a clear sense of escalation. The heroes confront villains and rescue allies in their own settings before returning to the central mystery around Calamitous and the stolen energy. Supporting characters such as Goddard, Sandy, Patrick, Sam, Tucker, Cindy, and Jorgen von Strangle link the game to the source shows, while the villains' partnership gives the four lead characters a shared reason to cooperate. The tone remains deliberately colorful and family-friendly, with cartoon action and broad humor framing the threat to the Nicktoons universes.
For Nintendo DS players, Nicktoons Unite! is a snapshot of the mid-2000s era of licensed crossover games: a single-player handheld platform game that adapts a large television cast to the system's touchscreen and portable 3D format. Its appeal lies in moving between the four heroes and seeing their worlds collide, while its campaign provides a straightforward sequence of exploration, combat, character-specific challenges, and boss encounters. The game was followed by Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island, Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots, and SpongeBob SquarePants Featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom, making this DS adventure the starting point for that run of Nicktoons team-up games.
