About

Littlest Pet Shop: City Friends for Nintendo DS is a 2009 pet-themed adventure from Electronic Arts, made under license from Hasbro’s Littlest Pet Shop brand. It is one of the Nintendo DS editions released under the Littlest Pet Shop Friends banner, alongside Country Friends and Beach Friends. The three handheld versions share the same party-focused premise but give each edition its own selection of pets, making City Friends a distinct entry rather than simply a different cover for the Wii release.

The story begins as the animal friends prepare for a major celebration and need help getting every detail ready. Players travel through the game’s colorful pet world, take on errands, and assemble the things needed for the event. Delivering invitations, finding decorations, and serving party treats turn the preparations into a sequence of small objectives, while the prospect of a mystery guest gives the festivities an extra thread to follow.

Exploration and short activities work together as the game’s main loop. Players guide the pets around town, visit its locations, speak with the other animals, and complete quests that move the party plans forward. Mini-games break up the adventure with simple task-based challenges; the game’s ESRB summary specifically identifies activities involving matching colored watches, sorting craft materials, and selling materials for the series’ Kibble currency.

City Friends also treats each animal as more than a collectible. Electronic Arts described the new pets as having individual personalities and traits that help them get through particular tasks, with a pet best friend supplying another useful skill for the adventure. Players can customize their animals with accessories and gifts as they continue the preparations, linking the game’s dress-up and collection appeal to its quest structure.

The Nintendo DS release is particularly defined by its version-specific pet roster. City Friends was marketed as one of three companion DS games, each with pets unavailable in the others, while the broader Friends release also appeared on Wii. That approach follows the earlier Littlest Pet Shop DS games, which likewise divided their handheld releases into separate pet-themed editions.

Electronic Arts announced Littlest Pet Shop Friends for the 2009 holiday season after the success of its 2008 games based on the toy line. The publisher positioned the sequel around new pets, brighter stylized presentation, mini-games, customization, and cooperative play. On Nintendo DS, Littlest Pet Shop: City Friends offers a gentle, goal-driven outing built around helping a group of animal friends turn everyday errands into a surprise-party adventure.
