About
Kimi Ni Todoke - Sodateru Omoi is the first Nintendo DS game based on Karuho Shiina's Kimi ni Todoke. Developed and published by Bandai Namco Games, it was released in Japan on 15 October 2009. This single-player adventure follows the series' high-school setting and presents its romance and friendships through Sawako Kuronuma's point of view.
Sawako is a quiet fifteen-year-old whose gloomy appearance has earned her the unsettling nickname Sadako, leaving classmates wary of her despite her gentle nature. On the day she starts high school, she finds the courage to help Shota Kazehaya when he loses his way. That small encounter begins to widen Sawako's world, creating opportunities for her to make friends and understand the feelings developing around her.
Players spend a school year as Sawako, following scenes drawn from the original premise alongside game-specific episodes. The adventure moves through the changing seasons and their school events, allowing the everyday rhythm of classes, conversations, and special occasions to shape the story's progress. Its focus is not action but the gradual growth of Sawako's confidence and the connections she forms with others.
Choices made during conversations guide the course of the narrative. The game has multiple routes and endings, so decisions can lead to different developments in Sawako's relationships and let players explore alternate possibilities within its Kimi ni Todoke setting. This structure turns the series' emphasis on hesitation, kindness, and communication into the central form of player involvement.
Sodateru Omoi also includes original voice work and animated material, with Mamiko Noto as Sawako and Daisuke Namikawa as Kazehaya. It stands as the opening DS entry in the franchise; the later Kimi ni Todoke: Tsutaeru Kimochi continues from the Kazehaya route and moves Sawako into her second year of high school.
