About

Justice League Heroes for Nintendo DS is a 2006 superhero action game developed by Sensory Sweep Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It adapts DC Comics' Justice League for a portable system, but it is its own handheld version rather than a direct conversion of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox game. The DS release works as a prequel to the larger console story, sending familiar heroes into a succession of comic-book-style emergencies involving criminals, monsters and super-villains.

The game presents missions from a top-down perspective on the DS lower screen. Players select a two-hero team from Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash, then guide the pair through combat arenas, corridors and objective-based stages. The action centers on clearing hostile groups, locating items, operating switches and reaching checkpoints. A player can change between the two selected heroes during a mission, so success depends on choosing the right character's strengths for the situation instead of relying on a single fighter.

Each of the four main heroes has a distinct mix of close-range attacks, stronger strikes, ranged options and a signature superpower. Batman fights with gadgets and martial-arts-inspired moves, Superman brings his immense strength and heat vision, Wonder Woman combines physical attacks with her Amazonian abilities, and the Flash emphasizes speed. This character variety gives the straightforward beat-'em-up structure a tactical edge, particularly when a level asks the player to manage enemies while navigating its small objectives.

Nintendo DS hardware shapes the interface as much as the viewpoint. The top screen displays a map, enemy positions, the next checkpoint and status information, while the lower screen keeps the battle in view. Touch-screen icons provide quick access to functions, including hero switching and temporary assistance. Rather than treating the second screen as decoration, the game uses it to keep navigation and character information close at hand while the player works through its mission segments.

Additional Justice League members can be called in for short periods of computer-controlled support. The available allies include Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Green Arrow and Huntress, each associated with an ability based on that character's powers. This support system expands the roster beyond the four selectable leads and gives the game the feel of a team adventure, even though the core missions are built around a two-hero pairing.

Justice League Heroes also includes minigames alongside its main campaign. A further bonus minigame can be unlocked by placing Justice League Heroes: The Flash for Game Boy Advance in the DS system's GBA cartridge slot, an example of the cross-cartridge features found on early Nintendo DS software. For fans of DC's flagship superhero team, this version is a compact, stylus-aware action game with a standalone story, a recognizable roster and an emphasis on switching powers in the middle of battle.
