About
Doodle Jump Journey for Nintendo DS is a 2013 action-platform game that brings Lima Sky’s vertical-jumping mobile hit to the DS as a standalone retail release. Developed by Smoking Gun Interactive and published in North America by GameMill Entertainment, it stars the Doodler in an arcade-style climb through a constantly rising field of platforms. Rather than the larger Nintendo 3DS companion release, Doodle Jump Adventures, this DS edition focuses on the compact, score-chasing format that defined the original game.
Each run begins with the Doodler bouncing upward automatically. The player’s job is to guide the character from platform to platform as the playfield scrolls, keeping the ascent going for as long as possible. Missing a landing sends the Doodler falling away from the available platforms, ending the attempt and turning the next run into another chance to improve on a previous height. The simple goal makes the game immediately understandable, while the continuously changing platform layout keeps every climb from unfolding in exactly the same way.
Hazards and enemies interrupt the route upward, so survival is not only about steering toward the next safe foothold. The Doodler can deal with hostile creatures by firing projectiles, while power-ups can alter the pace of a run and help carry the character through danger. The familiar Doodle Jump balance between positioning, timing, and reacting to what appears above the screen gives the Nintendo DS game its replayable arcade rhythm.
Doodle Jump Journey presents three of the franchise’s original visual settings: Classic, Jungle, and Space. Each theme changes the backdrop and the obstacles encountered during the climb, giving the same endless objective different surroundings. The Nintendo DS version is built around Endless Mode across those themes; it does not include the 48-level Adventure Mode, boss fights, and exclusive progression content created for Doodle Jump Adventures on Nintendo 3DS.
Released in North America on October 29, 2013, Doodle Jump Journey arrived after Doodle Jump had become widely known as a mobile platform game. Its release put a version of the series on Nintendo DS at retail and preserved the original high-climb concept in a dedicated handheld format. For players seeking a Doodle Jump Nintendo DS game, its emphasis is on short, repeatable attempts, climbing ever higher, avoiding threats, and pursuing a better result in one of three classic themes.
