About
America's Next Top Model is a Nintendo DS adaptation of the television modeling competition, developed by Independent Arts Software and published by dtp young entertainment. It was released in Europe in 2008 and subsequently reached North America in 2010, bringing the licensed show's basic elimination format to a handheld simulation game.
The player takes the role of one of ten aspiring models living together in the competition apartment. The objective is to survive a series of weekly assignments and judging sessions while the field is gradually reduced, leaving one contestant as the winner.
Between challenges, the model can be prepared for particular briefs through choices of clothing, hair, and makeup. The apartment acts as a hub for checking standings and a photo portfolio, arranging the week's activities, speaking with another contestant, and receiving guidance from a coach.
Its assignments are divided among makeup, fashion, catwalk, and photo-shoot activities. Fashion tasks ask the player to assemble an outfit that suits the stated look, while makeup challenges involve selecting and applying cosmetic details to match a requested style.
The DS touch screen is central to the runway and photography events. Players trace stylus patterns to produce poses and tap in time to keep the model walking smoothly on the catwalk; mistimed input can make her stumble, while accurate sequences improve the performance.
At the end of a week, the player faces the judging panel, including a catwalk presentation and questions about the modeling industry. The resulting feedback and score decide whether the chosen contestant advances, and successful photo-shoot results are added to the portfolio as the competition continues.
