About

Zombie Hunters for PlayStation 2 is a third-person hack-and-slash action game developed by Tamsoft. It is the European release of the 2005 Japanese Simple 2000 Series Vol. 80: The Oneechanpuruu ~ The Onechan Special Chapter ~, an expanded follow-up to the original Oneechanbara. D3Publisher released the Japanese edition, while Essential Games brought Zombie Hunters to Europe in 2007. The game places the series' sword-wielding heroine Aya at the centre of a compact, zombie-filled action adventure.

Aya fights through groups of undead and larger monsters with a katana, using close-range sword attacks to clear each area and move on. Its third-person combat is built around positioning amid crowds, timing strikes, and coping with enemies that can remain dangerous even after being dismembered. The game turns its extravagant horror-action premise into a direct stage-by-stage challenge: enter an area, survive the opposition, and prepare for the next encounter.

A defining mechanic is the blood that builds up on Aya's sword while she cuts down enemies. A heavily bloodied weapon becomes less efficient, so keeping the blade clean is an active part of combat rather than a cosmetic detail. This gives the simple slashing system an extra rhythm: players must balance aggressive attacks with the need to maintain their weapon before the accumulating blood becomes a problem.

Zombie Hunters expands on the earlier PlayStation 2 game released in Japan as Simple 2000 Series Vol. 61: The Oneechanbara, which was known in Europe as Zombie Zone. Alongside Aya, this special chapter adds Riho Futaba as an immediately selectable character and makes her younger sister Makoto available through play. Riho follows the same stages and uses the same basic move set as Aya, while the added characters and costume content give the updated edition more to unlock than its predecessor.

The game belongs to the Oneechanbara series, whose name joins the Japanese terms for an older sister and sword fighting. Its PlayStation 2 origins are visible in its focused structure and deliberately uncomplicated action design, but Zombie Hunters is significant as the regional version of the series' first expanded entry. For players exploring Tamsoft's early Oneechanbara releases, it offers the bridge between the original Zombie Zone and the later European sequel, Zombie Hunters 2.
