About

X-Men Origins: Wolverine for PlayStation 2 is a 2009 third-person action-adventure based on the film of the same name. Published by Activision and developed for PS2 and Wii by Amaze Entertainment, it is a distinct version of the cross-platform project rather than the Raven Software-built Uncaged Edition released for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Its Teen rating and reduced graphic violence make it a different fit from those more violent editions.

Players control Logan as he fights with retractable claws through a story that retells material from the film while adding original comic-book-inspired events. The campaign moves from Team X's mission in Africa to Weapon X, Project Wideawake, New Orleans, and Stryker's island facility. Familiar figures including Sabretooth, William Stryker, John Wraith, Remy LeBeau, Fred Dukes, and Weapon XI appear along the way, and Hugh Jackman returns to voice Wolverine.

The PS2 game centers on close-range brawling. Wolverine uses light and heavy strikes, grabs, and fast lunges to close on targets, while enemies and scenery supply experience points. Earning experience raises Logan's level and awards points for upgrades, allowing players to improve his abilities over the course of the adventure. Environmental interactions and straightforward traversal break up the encounters as the game guides Wolverine through combat arenas and story locations.

This PS2 port preserves the basic movie tie-in premise but should not be confused with the Uncaged Edition that made its graphic damage effects and Mature rating a major selling point. The PS2 and Wii versions use less graphic combat, less language, and some different combat implementation, reflecting the capabilities and audience of their platforms. That distinction is important for collectors comparing editions under the same title.

Released alongside the film in 2009, X-Men Origins: Wolverine arrived late in the PlayStation 2's life and offers a self-contained Wolverine campaign for the system. It combines superhero action, character progression, and an expanded adaptation of Logan's origin story. Activision later lost the Marvel license, and the game was removed from digital storefronts in 2014, leaving the PlayStation 2 release as a physical-era version of this multi-platform adaptation.
