About

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 for PlayStation 2 is a professional-wrestling game developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. Released in North America in November 2006, it brings WWE's Raw and SmackDown brands to Sony's console in the third SmackDown vs. Raw title and the eighth main game in the wider SmackDown series. Its lineup reflects WWE's mid-2000s era, letting players choose established Superstars, Divas, and Legends for exhibition matches or build their own wrestlers and groups.

The action is built around a revised Analog Control Grappling System. Rather than relying exclusively on preset button combinations, players use the right analog stick to influence grapple direction and position, from moving an opponent toward the ropes to setting up a slam. Strikes, grapples, counters, stamina management, finishers, and pin attempts work together to reproduce the shifting momentum of a televised WWE match. The previous control style can also be selected, giving returning players an alternative to the new analog approach.

Matches take place in WWE arenas and use familiar ring components as part of the contest. Wrestlers can use ropes, turnbuckles, the announce area, steel steps, and other environmental hotspots to create attacks, while certain match types also allow brawling out among the crowd and using objects from it. Weight classes affect the kinds of moves available and the opponents a wrestler can readily lift, differentiating smaller high-flyers and martial-arts-inspired performers from heavyweight power specialists. The PlayStation 2 edition supports local multiplayer for up to six people, so standard one-on-one bouts can give way to larger WWE-style contests.

Season Mode turns selected wrestlers into the focus of branching Raw or SmackDown storylines. Players progress through matches and scenes toward WrestleMania, with choices and results shaping how a particular path develops. Successful pay-per-view performances can earn trophies that unlock characters, championships, and attire for use elsewhere, while in-game currency buys additional items. This makes the mode more than a sequence of standalone matches: it is a route through a season of WWE programming with rewards that feed back into the wider game.

Creation tools add another layer of customization. Create-A-Superstar provides a way to make an original competitor, while Create-An-Entrance allows players to arrange presentation details such as camera timing, pyrotechnics, and effects. Create-A-Stable supports teams and alliances of up to five members, and Create-A-Championship returns with the option to make belts that use a spinning centerpiece. General Manager Mode is also expanded, inviting players to manage a WWE brand by arranging shows, rosters, rivalries, and events rather than simply entering the ring.

Although WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 also reached Xbox 360 and PlayStation Portable, the PlayStation 2 version remains a distinct release for the system that had long hosted the series. It was followed by WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008. For players interested in a 2006 WWE roster, story-driven single-player play, couch multiplayer, and a broad collection of match and creation options, this PS2 entry captures a particular period of the franchise's evolution while introducing controls and arena interaction that set it apart from its immediate predecessor.
