Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: Party Edition is a 2006 quiz game for PlayStation 2 based on the UK television format. Developed by Climax Action and published by Eidos Interactive, it adapts the familiar hot-seat challenge into a game designed for solo play and local groups.

Its main single-player game asks the contestant to climb the money tree by answering 15 increasingly difficult multiple-choice questions for the £1 million top prize. The show’s three lifelines are present: 50:50, Ask the Audience, and Phone a Friend; the latter draws on a large bank of recorded calls.

Difficulty settings alter those rules. Easy gives the player three extra lives as well as the lifelines, medium removes the extra lives, and hard removes the lifelines. A separate Quick-Fire mode turns the quiz into a race against the clock.

The central party mode has players buzz in to claim questions, then answer quickly before another contestant can steal the turn. Players have three lives, and can use a double-dare option to force a rival to answer; the result moves that rival up or down the money tree.

Additional multiplayer variants include Play or Pass, Millionaire Remix, MultiMillionaire, and a multiplayer Quick-Fire game. MultiMillionaire is team-based, with teammates taking turns and sharing lifelines, while Millionaire Remix focuses on collecting lives and lifelines on the route toward the top prize.

Up to four people can play locally using Sony Buzz! controllers or standard DualShock 2 pads; connecting four standard pads requires a multitap. The PS2 version also supports the EyeToy camera, which can place player photographs on the scoreboard and winning cheque.

Party Edition recreates the UK show’s dramatic set, music, and lighting, and features recorded vocal material from host Chris Tarrant. Players choose from 16 cartoon-styled in-game characters, a deliberately lighter presentation alongside the traditional game-show quiz.
