About

Toro to Kyuujitsu is a Japan-only PlayStation 2 communication adventure from Sony Computer Entertainment, released on November 29, 2001. Starring Toro Inoue, the expressive white cat associated with the Doko Demo Issyo series, it turns a holiday in a quiet harbor town into the center of the experience. Rather than presenting a conventional action quest, Toro to Kyuujitsu PS2 invites the player to spend unhurried time with Toro: chatting, wandering, meeting people, and collecting the small memories that make a trip feel personal.

The game’s setting is especially distinctive for its use of filmed locations. Toro and the other stylized animal characters are placed against live-action photographic scenery, giving the town a tangible, everyday character. Streets, waterfront views, and local spaces become places to linger rather than merely backdrops between objectives. The result is a gentle contrast between Toro’s cartoon appearance and a world built from real-looking environments, with the journey’s atmosphere carrying as much weight as any individual task.

Conversation is a core part of the Toro to Kyuujitsu experience. Players speak with Toro, answer his questions, and help teach him words, continuing the communication-focused ideas that defined Doko Demo Issyo. Responses shape the feel of the exchanges, while Toro’s reactions keep the interaction centered on his personality. Instead of treating dialogue as a quick route to a mission marker, the game makes everyday talk and shared observations part of its progression.

Exploration broadens that relationship. The player can stroll through the town with Toro, encounter local residents and other animal characters, and discover moments that turn a walk into a memory. There is no need for a race against an enemy or a demand for technical mastery; the objective is to experience a vacation alongside Toro. Each meeting, conversation, and change of scenery supports the idea of getting to know both the town and its feline companion over the course of the visit.

Toro to Kyuujitsu also reflects Toro’s growing importance within Sony’s Japanese game culture. Toro first appeared in the original Doko Demo Issyo, where the series paired virtual-companion interaction with a playful conversational approach. This PS2 entry gives him a more focused starring role while retaining the qualities that made the character recognizable: curiosity, expressiveness, and a wish to become human. The title’s place in that series is clear in its emphasis on words, companionship, and daily-life encounters rather than traditional genre spectacle.

As a single-player PlayStation 2 release, Toro to Kyuujitsu stands apart from many early-2000s console games through its relaxed pace and photographic presentation. It was released in Japan by Sony Computer Entertainment and later returned in the PlayStation 2 the Best budget line, but it did not receive an official Western release. For players interested in Doko Demo Issyo, Toro Inoue, or unusual PS2 games built around conversation and place, it remains a portrait of a holiday where simply taking a walk and talking with a friend is the main event.
