About

Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force brings a story-driven first-person shooter to PlayStation 2, placing players aboard the USS Voyager during the television series’ sixth season. The starship remains stranded in the Delta Quadrant, far from Federation space, when a violent encounter leaves it damaged and abruptly transports it into a hazardous graveyard of derelict vessels. The game follows a crisis that feels deliberately shaped like a longer Voyager adventure, combining shipboard scenes with dangerous away missions.

Players take the role of Ensign Alex Munro, choosing Alexander or Alexandria at the start. Munro serves with the Hazard Team, an elite security unit established by Lieutenant Commander Tuvok for assignments too dangerous for ordinary crews. After Voyager is trapped and its systems are compromised, the team must protect the ship, investigate the strange location, recover vital resources, and confront the forces responsible for holding numerous vessels captive.

The campaign alternates between exploration, objectives, conversations, and firefights seen from Munro’s perspective. Missions send the Hazard Team through damaged starships, alien installations, a Borg cube, and the looming Forge station, while quieter sequences allow players to move through familiar parts of Voyager and speak with crewmates. Objectives range from accessing computer systems and escorting allies to disabling defenses and escaping hostile territory, so combat is framed by a continuing rescue and investigation story rather than isolated arena battles.

Elite Force uses an arsenal adapted to the Star Trek setting. A rechargeable hand phaser provides dependable basic firepower, while weapons such as the phaser compression rifle, grenade launcher, stasis weapon, and pulse-energy arms expand the tactical options. Some weapons offer alternate firing modes, and health, armor, ammunition, and equipment can be replenished through pickups or wall-mounted stations. Encounters pit Munro against scavengers, Klingons, Borg drones, and other alien threats, with the Borg’s ability to adapt to repeated weapon use creating a distinctive pressure during their appearances.

Voyager’s television cast and setting are central to the experience. Captain Kathryn Janeway, Tuvok, B’Elanna Torres, Seven of Nine, and other members of the crew feature alongside original Hazard Team characters including Telsia Murphy, Austin Chang, Kendrick Biessman, and team leader Les Foster. The game also draws on familiar Star Trek species and ideas, including the Borg, Hirogen, Malon, holodeck simulations, and away-team problem solving. This mixture lets the game tell a new story while preserving the crew dynamics and Delta Quadrant atmosphere associated with the series.

This PlayStation 2 edition is a dedicated console conversion of Raven Software’s earlier computer game. Pipe Dream Interactive developed the port, with Majesco publishing it in North America and Codemasters distributing it in PAL territories. It retains the campaign and the Holomatch multiplayer concept while adapting the presentation and controls for Sony’s gamepad. The console version uses simplified visuals compared with the PC original, adds auto-aim assistance for shooting, and limits multiplayer to local four-player matches because the PlayStation 2 release has no online support.

Holomatch presents multiplayer as a Voyager holodeck activity. Friends can choose from Star Trek-themed characters and compete in local deathmatch, team deathmatch, or capture-the-flag games across science-fiction arenas. The single-player campaign remains the focus, however, using scripted scenes, squadmates, recognizable sets, and escalating objectives to make the player part of Voyager’s crew during an emergency. For Star Trek fans, it offers the appeal of exploring a familiar ship and working beside its characters; for shooter players, it delivers a linear sci-fi action campaign built around phasers, hostile boarding parties, and high-stakes missions.
