About

Rumble Roses is a PlayStation 2 professional-wrestling game published by Konami, first released in North America in November 2004 before arriving in Japan and Europe in February 2005. Developed by Yuke's alongside Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, it places an original all-women roster at the center of a stylized wrestling promotion. Rather than using a licensed league, the game builds its own cast, arenas, rivalries, entrances, and ring personas around one-on-one bouts.

Matches use the familiar rhythm of console wrestling: close distance, exchange strikes, apply holds, counter an opponent's offense, and pursue a pinfall. Wrestlers have individual specialties and signature Killer Moves, while attacks can be performed standing, running, from the ropes, and in the corners. The action also gives players ways to work the crowd through taunts and showmanship. This emphasis on momentum and presentation makes a match about more than simply depleting an opponent: setting up the right moment for a decisive move is part of the strategy.

The PlayStation 2 game offers standard exhibition wrestling for one or two local players, as well as a story-driven mode focused on individual wrestlers. A spectator option lets the computer control both competitors, and mud-wrestling matches provide a separate setting and rules variation. The roster includes fighters such as masked Japanese wrestler Reiko Hinomoto, cowgirl Dixie Clemets, nurse and antagonist Anesthesia, and the mysterious Lady X, giving the fictional organization a deliberately varied set of personas.

Rumble Roses' defining system is the split between Face and Heel identities. A wrestler can be developed toward a heroic, fair-playing persona or a villainous, rule-breaking one, with that choice affecting her appearance, attitude, and available abilities. The Vow system supplies particular match objectives—such as winning under specified conditions or using certain techniques—to unlock changes and rewards. Because the two versions of the same wrestler are alternate identities, they cannot be selected against one another; exhibition play permits one version of each character at a time.

Built with Yuke's wrestling-game experience, Rumble Roses uses an engine associated with WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain while taking its own fictional direction. It remained a PlayStation 2-exclusive release, and its cast later returned in the Xbox 360 follow-up Rumble Roses XX in 2006. For players exploring the PS2 library, the original stands as a mid-2000s wrestling game centered on arcade-style bouts, character-specific moves, crowd appeal, and a progression system built around changing a wrestler's public persona.
