About

Rayman Raving Rabbids on PlayStation 2 is Ubisoft's 2006 party game starring the limbless Rayman, released for Sony's console after the Wii edition. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft, it turns a series known for colourful platforming into a fast-moving collection of comic challenges. The game introduces the Rabbids, a loud, bug-eyed horde whose arrival interrupts a peaceful outing with Globox's children and sends Rayman into an underground arena.

The Rabbids capture Rayman and make him perform trials for their own amusement. Play is organised around successive days in the arena: Rayman selects challenges, completes enough of them to earn a final event, and returns to his cell afterward. Successful performances award plungers. Those objects are more than a score: Rayman stacks them in his cell to build a route toward the window, tying the individual minigames to the goal of escaping captivity.

Rather than presenting one fixed play style, Rayman Raving Rabbids PS2 changes the rules from event to event. Challenges test timing, reactions, rhythm, aiming, and control of Rayman's movement. Examples include warthog races, target-shooting Bunny Hunt sequences that fire plungers at pursuing Rabbids, music-driven dance routines, and deliberately absurd strength contests involving cows. The variety is central to the format: players learn a small objective for each trial, chase the needed result, then move on to a different kind of test.

The PlayStation 2 version is especially notable for translating a game designed around Wii motion control to the DualShock 2. Instead of swinging a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players use the pad's buttons, analogue sticks, and shoulder controls. Its dance trials, for example, use timed button inputs, while other events make use of stick movement or standard aiming controls. That makes this release a button-controlled take on the same party-game premise, with its own feel compared with the motion-led Wii original.

Between trials, the cell acts as a small base where progress can be saved and earlier activities or records revisited. The single-player escape route gives the minigame collection a light narrative throughline, while a number of events can also be played with up to four local players. The tone stays intentionally slapstick throughout: the Rabbids heckle, scream, dance, and turn ordinary activities into surreal spectacles, while Rayman's costumes and reactions help sell the game's cartoon energy.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is a spin-off in the wider Rayman series and the first game to place the Rabbids at the centre of the action. Its arrival established the characters that later became the focus of their own Ubisoft franchise, even as this entry still frames the chaos through Rayman's attempt to survive the arena and get home. For PlayStation 2 players, it remains a late-era example of a console party game built around short, varied challenges and the series' unusual visual humour.
