About
ObsCure: The Aftermath is the North American title of Hydravision Entertainment’s PS2 survival-horror sequel, released by Ignition Entertainment in North America on March 25, 2008. Known as ObsCure II in PAL territories, it follows the 2004 game ObsCure and returns to its teen-horror world two years after the disaster at Leafmore High. The action shifts to Fallcreek University, where an apparently harmless black flower and its derivatives begin spreading through the campus, with horrifying consequences for the students.
Like its predecessor, the game combines fixed cinematic camera angles, exploration, environmental puzzles, item gathering, and combat against mutated creatures. Players search dormitories, university facilities, and surrounding locations for routes forward, keys, useful objects, ammunition, and weapons. The PlayStation 2 controls support lock-on targeting with L1 and attacks or shooting with R1, while manual aiming and an auto-aim assist help manage encounters. Weapon selection is available from the directional pad, keeping the action moving without repeated trips through the inventory.
The campaign is built around paired characters. In solo play, the companion is handled by the game and control can be switched between partners; a second person can also join locally and take command of the other character. This drop-in cooperative structure is central to ObsCure: The Aftermath rather than a separate mode. Partners share an inventory and supplies, so distributing firearms, healing items, and puzzle tools matters when danger rises.
Six playable students bring different practical abilities to the group. Some can move heavy objects, while others can use agility or lock-related skills to reach places their partner cannot. Puzzles frequently turn those traits into cooperative tasks, whether players are working side by side or alternating control alone. Unlike the original game’s more restricted pairing, the sequel lets partners move around more freely, with the camera passing between them when the situation requires it.
The story reunites survivors including Shannon and Kenny Matthews with new Fallcreek students such as Corey Wilde, Mei Wang, Sven Hansen, and Amy Brookes. Their attempt to understand the outbreak sends them from the campus party where the crisis begins into increasingly dangerous parts of Fallcreek. Full-motion sequences and in-game exchanges frame the creature encounters, while the setting deliberately draws on the heightened tone of American teen horror rather than military or police-led survival horror.
For PS2 players, ObsCure: The Aftermath stands as a late-era console entry that blends classic survival-horror presentation with a full local cooperative story. Hydravision developed it for PlayStation 2 and Windows before later versions reached Wii and PSP, but the PS2 release remains the version associated with the game’s 2008 North American title. Its emphasis on two-character problem-solving, shared resources, and a campus-set monster outbreak distinguishes it within the ObsCure series.
