About

Little Busters! Converted Edition for PlayStation 2 is a Japanese romance adventure and visual novel developed by Key and published by Prototype. Released in Japan on December 24, 2009, this PS2 edition brings Key's school-life story to the console as an all-ages adaptation based on the expanded Little Busters! EX version. Its focus is not only romance but also the lasting bonds of a close-knit group of friends, giving the game a distinctive balance of comedy, everyday campus scenes, character drama, and interactive side activities.

Players experience the story through Riki Naoe, a high school student who has remained close to the friends who helped him through a difficult childhood: Kyousuke Natsume, Kyousuke's younger sister Rin, Masato Inohara, and Kengo Miyazawa. The group calls itself the Little Busters, a name left over from their childhood games of justice and adventure. When Kyousuke decides they should form a baseball team, Riki and Rin begin looking for more members among their classmates. That simple goal introduces a wider cast and sets the game’s personal story routes in motion.

The core of Little Busters! Converted Edition is traditional choice-driven visual-novel play. Riki’s narration, dialogue, character portraits, and illustrated event scenes carry the player through school days, conversations, and turning points. At key moments, selecting a response directs the story toward different character routes and endings. Multiple playthroughs are needed to explore the central heroines’ stories and unlock the broader conclusion, so progression is built around revisiting the school setting from new perspectives rather than completing a single linear campaign.

The PlayStation 2 release also interrupts its reading sections with optional game-like diversions. These include baseball batting practice, where the player controls Riki’s positioning and swing timing, plus humorous battle sequences involving the Little Busters. Missions, collectible equipment, and character statistics give these activities a light role-playing flavor, while later parts of the game add further unusual challenges. Players who prefer to concentrate on the narrative can disable most of these extras, making the PS2 game approachable as either a story-first visual novel or a more playful mix of genres.

Converted Edition is specifically notable within the series because it adapts the expanded EX content for a console release while removing the adult material. It includes the additional heroine scenarios associated with that expansion, including stories for Kanata Futaki, Sasami Sasasegawa, and Saya Tokido, alongside the original routes. The game was released on one DVD for PlayStation 2 and supports progressive output. Its Japanese release is also clearly separate from later Portable, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, and English PC editions, which brought the same general version of the story to other platforms with their own presentation changes.

Key’s writers and artists give Little Busters! Converted Edition a large ensemble to support its themes of friendship, growing up, and learning to face change. Rin’s difficulty communicating with other people, Kyousuke’s elaborate schemes, Masato and Kengo’s rivalry, and the newcomers’ individual concerns all help make the school feel like an active social world rather than a mere backdrop. The result is a substantial single-player PS2 visual novel for readers who enjoy branching character stories, anime-style presentation, and a high-school adventure that makes baseball practice, mock battles, and everyday friendships part of its storytelling.
