About
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures for PlayStation 2 is a 2008 action-adventure game from Traveller's Tales and LucasArts. It turns the first three Indiana Jones films—Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade—into a comic LEGO journey built around exploration, slapstick danger, and treasure hunting. The PS2 version arrived alongside releases for several other systems in June 2008, bringing Indiana Jones into the same family-friendly LEGO game style that Traveller's Tales had established with its Star Wars adaptations.
The adventure is organized into three film-based campaigns, with six stages for each movie. Players begin from Barnett College, Indiana Jones's academic home, then travel through locations inspired by the films as they pursue artifacts, escape traps, and confront rival treasure seekers. Short, wordless comic scenes recast famous moments in LEGO form, while the stages create their own playable routes through jungles, temples, deserts, caves, and other archaeological trouble spots. The focus remains on the original trilogy rather than the then-new Kingdom of the Crystal Skull film.
In Story mode, each level assigns the characters appropriate to that chapter of the adventure. A second player can join locally at any point, while a computer-controlled companion fills the other role in solo play. The two-character setup is central to solving puzzles: one figure may need to operate a switch, carry a tool, or help a partner past an obstacle. Progress comes from reading the environment, breaking and rebuilding LEGO objects, moving pieces into place, activating mechanisms, and occasionally steering vehicles or riding animals through set-piece sequences.
Indiana Jones's whip is one of the game's defining tools. It can disarm foes, latch onto certain objects, interact with mechanisms, and help Indy swing across gaps. Other characters bring useful traits of their own, such as digging with a shovel, repairing machinery with a wrench, leaping higher, squeezing through small openings, or translating ancient writing. Character fears also matter in particular situations; snakes can stop Indy from acting until another character helps. These abilities make the game more than a simple brawler, since many areas ask players to choose the right person and combine their skills.
Collecting remains a major part of LEGO Indiana Jones on PS2. Studs earned by smashing scenery and defeating enemies act as the game's currency, and stages contain hidden treasure and other bonuses. Completing a chapter unlocks Free Play, where players can return with characters gathered elsewhere in the game. Their different abilities open routes and secrets that were unavailable during the first visit, giving the campaign a reason to be replayed after its film-inspired story has been completed. Barnett College also serves as the place to unlock content and review the growing collection.
The game uses physical comedy and playful visual reinterpretation rather than the films' harsher tone, but it keeps recognizable pursuits, artifacts, allies, and adversaries at the center of each chapter. Its PlayStation 2 edition is a complete console version of the original release, offering the same broad mix of combat, light platforming, environmental puzzles, cooperative play, and collectible hunting. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures later received a sequel, LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, which expanded the game’s film material to include Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
