About
Kuri Kuri Mix is the European PlayStation 2 name for FromSoftware's cooperative puzzle-platform adventure, released by Empire Interactive in PAL territories in May 2001. Known in North America as The Adventures of Cookie & Cream, it stars two cartoon rabbits racing home before their clan's Moon Festival. A messenger tells them that the moon has disappeared, placing the celebration in jeopardy, and sends the pair on a journey to bring it back. The cheerful premise supports a game built around coordination rather than combat.
The PlayStation 2 game presents Cookie and Cream on separate but connected routes. Each character must reach the end of a course before a shared time limit expires, yet barriers on one path are frequently controlled by actions on the other. A switch, moving platform, gate or other obstacle may require one rabbit to stop and help while the other advances. The screen divides the two simultaneous journeys, making it possible to follow both halves of a stage and see why communication matters.
Kuri Kuri Mix is designed around one or two players. In cooperative play, each participant controls one rabbit and the challenge comes from reacting to the other player's route as well as their own. The game can also be played solo, asking one person to manage both characters at once. Its unusual PlayStation 2 controller option lets two people share a single pad, each taking a side; it turns the physical controller itself into part of the co-op idea. Time-extending watches scattered through the stages give players useful seconds, while mistakes and delays make an efficient route more important.
Story Mode carries the Moon Festival quest through its succession of obstacle courses and gives the game its main progression. Completing stages can also yield puzzle pieces that unlock additional characters for the competitive mode. In VS. Mode, two to four players race through courses while trying to build a higher score before the finish. The PS2 version supports the Multitap for four-controller play, so it can shift from a two-rabbit rescue adventure into a local multiplayer contest without changing the central emphasis on navigating hazards quickly.
Although its rabbits and bright presentation make Kuri Kuri Mix immediately approachable, its course design continually asks players to divide attention, anticipate timing and assist at the right moment. It is a notably playful early PlayStation 2 project from FromSoftware, a studio whose catalogue covered a wide range of game styles. The PAL release retains the Kuri Kuri Mix name used in Japan and Europe, while the same original PS2 game appeared elsewhere under The Adventures of Cookie & Cream. A Nintendo DS version followed years later as Cookie & Cream, but it reworked the concept around the handheld's dual screens and touch controls; Kuri Kuri Mix is the original split-route PS2 experience.
