About
Shrek SuperSlam for Game Boy Advance is a 2005 fighting game based on DreamWorks' Shrek films. Developed by Amaze Entertainment and published by Activision, this handheld entry adapts the series' fairy-tale cast into a 2D arena brawler rather than duplicating the 3D console game. Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots and the Gingerbread Man are among the combatants drawn from Shrek and Shrek 2, with the GBA edition also giving Doris, one of Fiona's stepsisters, a platform-exclusive playable appearance.
Matches are built around direct, side-view confrontations in interactive stages inspired by the movies. Each fighter has light and heavy attacks, throws, individual strengths and weaknesses, and a personal Slam move. Landing attacks builds Fairy Dust; once enough has been collected, a character can unleash that stronger move. Weapons that appear during a match can also be picked up and turned against an opponent, adding a changing element to the close-quarters fights.
The single-player Story Mode frames its bouts as tales told to Donkey's young Dronkeys after the group’s storybook is ruined. Choosing a character leads through a sequence of fights and unlocks more content, including additional fighters, arenas and alternate outfits. The structure lets the game move between the main cast’s comic rivalries while retaining the broad, irreverent fairy-tale setting associated with the films.
Shrek SuperSlam GBA also includes Melee for stand-alone battles, a tutorial for learning the controls, and Mega Challenge events that set special objectives beyond a standard fight. Challenges can ask players to complete a task before their rivals, and success opens further bonuses. French Flies collected during play can be exchanged with the Frog King for extras such as cinematic clips, music and sound effects.
Multiplayer is supported through the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable or wireless adapter, allowing friends to take the handheld brawls beyond the computer-controlled opposition. The menu separates the solo modes, multiplayer, bonus material and saved-data options, making the game’s unlockable content part of its overall progression. Its 2D presentation and handheld-specific roster distinguish it from the more expansive 3D versions released for home consoles in the same year.
As a licensed fighting game from the middle of the Game Boy Advance era, Shrek SuperSlam brings the first two Shrek films' heroes, villains and comic tone into short arena encounters. Its emphasis is on choosing a familiar character, building Fairy Dust through attacks, timing a Slam, and working through story battles or challenges to reveal more of the game. For players seeking the GBA version in particular, it is a separate Amaze Entertainment adaptation with its own format, content and platform-specific touches.
