About
Gremlins: Stripe vs. Gizmo is a Game Boy Advance platform game from 2002, developed by Magic Pockets and published by Wanadoo Edition. Set during Christmas in Kingston Falls, it turns the familiar rivalry between the gentle Mogwai Gizmo and the destructive Gremlin Stripe into two opposing single-player campaigns.
The player chooses either Gizmo or Stripe, and that decision changes the campaign's purpose as well as its character-specific actions. Gizmo works to recover presents stolen from the town and keep Christmas from being ruined, while Stripe sets out to wreck presents and thwart Gizmo. The two routes therefore present the same conflict from opposite sides rather than simply using a cosmetic character swap.
Gizmo moves through the side-scrolling stages by jumping and can use a double jump to reach higher routes. His flashlight helps him drive back Gremlin opposition, while rolling into a ball lets him knock enemies over. The Gizmo campaign also plays on the danger of being captured and made to eat after midnight, which would turn him into a Gremlin.
Stripe has a different set of attacks and faces Mogwais instead of generic Gremlins. He can strike with his claws and use cream pies to capture Mogwais, turning them into Gremlins. This contrast gives Stripe's path a more aggressive objective while preserving the same 2D platforming structure.
Adventure Mode carries the story through 14 levels, including a climactic confrontation between Gizmo and Stripe. The game also offers an Against-the-Clock mode for timed runs and a multiplayer mode for two players using the Game Boy Advance link connection. Together, the modes expand the game beyond the two campaign perspectives.
As a licensed entry in the Gremlins game series, Stripe vs. Gizmo draws its setting and characters from the films while telling a holiday-focused conflict built around the series' opposing leads. Its GBA release is distinct from the earlier Game Boy Color game Gremlins: Unleashed!, which also featured Gizmo and Stripe but used a different premise.
