About

WWF Attitude Dreamcast is Acclaim's late-1999 professional wrestling game built around the World Wrestling Federation roster and presentation of the Attitude era. Developed by Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City and published under the Acclaim Sports label, it is the Dreamcast version of the sequel to WWF War Zone rather than a separate wrestling game. The release brings the license's then-current television personalities, championship ambitions and deliberately brash atmosphere to Sega's console, arriving in North America in November 1999. Its Dreamcast presentation uses sharper texture work and a more smoothly animated crowd than the earlier PlayStation and Nintendo 64 editions.

Matches use the same timing-minded approach as the preceding Acclaim WWF game. Players move around the ring, strike or initiate a grapple, then use directional inputs and button presses to select throws, holds and other wrestling maneuvers. Damage meters make the state of a contest readable as wrestlers wear one another down, while running, climbing the turnbuckles, taunting, leaving the ring and using ringside objects expand the range of actions. Pinfalls, submissions, count-outs and the special rules of the chosen bout give the familiar contest types different priorities, so a player can concentrate on a decisive maneuver, survival, or the stipulated condition rather than simply pursuing one standard finish.

WWF Attitude offers exhibition wrestling alongside a broad collection of match formats. Singles and tag contests sit beside larger multi-wrestler events and specialty rules including Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, First Blood and I Quit matches. The roster reflects the WWF's 1999 landscape, with figures such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Mankind and Triple H among the recognizable competitors. Wrestlers have entrance material, pre-match personality and ring attire that connect the game to the promotion's programming, while commentary from Jerry Lawler and Shane McMahon accompanies the action. Local multiplayer lets several people share a card as opponents or partners.

The principal long-form option is Career Mode. A selected WWF superstar begins on house shows, progresses toward RAW and pay-per-view events, and works toward chances at the European, Intercontinental and WWF championships. This provides a structured route through the game's match selection instead of leaving every contest as a stand-alone exhibition. The path is supported by an extensive set of editable options: players can make a custom wrestler by choosing appearance details, clothing, moves, entrance music and announced nicknames. Those creations can become part of the wider game rather than existing only as isolated exhibition characters.

Customization also extends beyond an individual wrestler. Create-A-Stable allows groups to be organized for entrances and interference, while Create-A-Pay-Per-View lets players assemble an event card, name the show and choose its matches. The associated arena controls can alter details such as lighting, ropes, turnbuckles, banners and ring branding, giving a homemade event a distinct look. That focus on building a card complements the wealth of official WWF content and makes WWF Attitude Dreamcast especially suited to players who want to stage their own late-1990s wrestling shows.

The Dreamcast edition arrived after the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 versions and near the point when Acclaim's long-running WWF publishing relationship was ending. It remains Acclaim's final WWF game before the license moved to THQ, giving it a particular place in the company's wrestling-game lineage. The game preserves the career, match and creation systems that defined WWF Attitude while presenting them on Dreamcast hardware, making it a period-specific snapshot of both Acclaim's War Zone-style engine and the WWF roster it was licensed to represent.
