About

Tweenies: Doodles' Bones is a Game Boy Color game based on the BBC preschool series Tweenies. Released in Europe on 19 October 2001, it was developed by Tiertex Design Studios and published by BBC Multimedia. Rather than adapting a television episode, the game gives the familiar playgroup characters a small adventure centered on Doodles, Max's dog. Doodles has misplaced his buried bones, and the map Max made to mark them has been torn into separate pieces. Players guide the Tweenies through games and puzzles to recover the pieces, then use the restored map to finish Doodles' search in the garden.

The Game Boy Color version combines simple side-scrolling action with short puzzle activities. Its central play space is the Tweenies' nursery, from which the player can choose what to tackle next. The fantasy-themed action sections send a Tweenie into colourful areas including jungle and underwater settings. Each stage has a clear child-friendly task, such as collecting a required set of objects or using the right items to change the scene, while hazards and enemies make careful movement useful. The emphasis is on completing the objective rather than on long, open-ended exploration.

Progress is tied to the missing map. Completing the four platform-style levels and the game's puzzle activities earns the pieces needed to rebuild it. The minigames draw on names associated with the programme's familiar routine, including Messy Time, Telly Time, Story Time and Song Time, but are presented as handheld challenges rather than episodes of the show. Once enough pieces have been collected, the final bone-finding sequence turns the map from a story device into the goal of the adventure. A password feature also records progress through the map-piece milestones for players returning later.

Tweenies: Doodles' Bones was designed for a young audience, and its difficulty selection is part of that approach. Easy, Medium and Hard settings apply across its games and puzzles, allowing the same basic route to be revisited with a different level of challenge. The game uses the Game Boy Color's compact screen for direct, readable activities instead of trying to reproduce the live-action puppet programme itself. Its European cartridge also supports English, Dutch, Italian and Spanish, fitting its release across several territories.

As a 2001 licensed Game Boy Color release, Tweenies: Doodles' Bones sits beside other early video-game adaptations of the British children's property, including the separately made PlayStation game Tweenies: Game Time. The two should not be confused: Doodles' Bones is the Tiertex-developed handheld adventure, with its own map-recovery premise and mixture of platform stages and minigames. For players exploring BBC Multimedia's Game Boy Color catalogue or the era's television tie-ins, it is a concise Tweenies quest built around the series' characters, routines and gentle sense of play.
