About
Frogger for Game Boy Color is Morning Star Multimedia's 1998 handheld version of Konami's arcade classic, published in North America by Majesco. It is a color port of the original road-and-river challenge, not the 3D adventure released for PlayStation.
From a top-down view, guide Frogger upward one hop at a time with the directional pad. The goal is to cross the screen safely and place frogs in the home bays along the far bank before time runs out.
The first half of each crossing is a traffic-filled road. Cars and trucks move at different speeds, so a poorly timed hop costs one of Frogger's lives.
Beyond the road is a river that cannot be entered directly. Ride moving logs, turtles and alligators to the other side, while avoiding hazards such as diving turtles, snakes and alligator jaws.
Filling every home bay advances the game to a tougher round, where faster movement and changing hazards demand more precise timing. Open homes can also offer bonus targets, such as flies.
Do not confuse this Game Boy Color release with the 1999 Game.com version. The Game.com cartridge included a classic mode, a separate set of newer layouts and support for up to four players; this GBC release is the straightforward single-player arcade-style port.
