About

X2: Wolverine's Revenge for Game Boy Advance is a 2003 action platform game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. Based on Marvel's Wolverine and released alongside the X2 movie period, it tells a separate comic-book-style adventure rather than simply shrinking the contemporary console game for a handheld. Logan learns that the Weapon X program left a lethal Shiva virus in his body, and he has just 48 hours to find a cure. The deadline sends him back toward the people and places connected to his fractured past.

The GBA version presents that mission as a side-scrolling journey built around Wolverine's claws, speed, and resilience. Players move through military sites, wilderness, underground facilities, and other hostile locations, cutting through guards, mutants, and mechanical threats while searching for the route forward. Regular progress combines platform jumps, close-range combat, hazards, and exploration. Stages can also ask Logan to locate items such as keys before a blocked path can be opened, giving the adventure a deliberate stop-and-search rhythm between fights.

Combat centers on Wolverine's retractable adamantium claws. With them extended, he can carve through enemies in direct encounters and build toward Rage Mode, a temporary burst of greater offensive power activated through repeated button presses. The game also gives him a dash, wall and ceiling clinging, and a slide that helps him negotiate terrain and avoid damage from falls. His healing factor is an important part of the handheld design: when he stands still, the player can have Logan regenerate lost health, creating moments to choose a safer position before pressing onward.

Not every situation rewards rushing in. X2: Wolverine's Revenge Game Boy Advance includes stealth-oriented passages where Wolverine must get past a level without alerting its occupants. He can approach an unaware opponent and use a silent takedown, providing a different use for the character's physical abilities than the standard claw attacks. That combination of brawling, movement, recovery, and occasional stealth gives the portable game its own identity, even though it shares its title and basic premise with the PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and computer releases.

The story keeps the focus on Wolverine's connection to Weapon X and the mystery surrounding his transformation into an adamantium-laced mutant. Professor Xavier and the X-Men are part of the wider conflict, while familiar adversaries make the time-limited search more dangerous. The Game Boy Advance campaign sends Logan through locations including the Canadian wilderness, Weapon X territory, Mount Arakawa in Japan, the Xavier Institute, and an island fortress. Boss encounters bring him into conflict with enemies such as Sabretooth, Pyro, Omega Red, and Magneto, tying the stages to recognizable figures from Wolverine's Marvel world.

Vicarious Visions adapted the premise to the Game Boy Advance with a single-player, sprite-based format rather than the third-person action used by the larger console editions. That distinction matters for anyone looking for X2: Wolverine's Revenge on GBA: it is a purpose-built portable action game with its own side-view level design, progression, and encounter flow. Activision later included the cartridge in a 2005 Twin Pack with Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace, placing it among the company's early-2000s Marvel games for Nintendo's handheld.
