About

Disney's Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey & Donald for Game Boy Advance is a 2D Disney platform game published by Capcom. Developed for this GBA release by Klein Computer Entertainment, it brings the third Magical Quest adventure to an international audience after the original game had appeared only in Japan for Super Famicom in 1995. The handheld version debuted in Japan in 2003, reached Europe in 2004, and arrived in North America in 2005. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck take the lead in a storybook world threatened by Baron Pete.

The adventure begins when Huey, Dewey, and Louie discover an enchanted book in Donald's attic and are drawn into Storybook Land. Pete captures the nephews and intends to extend his rule beyond the book, leaving Mickey and Donald to follow them into the fantasy realm. Guided by Storybook Land's fairy and aided by familiar Disney faces, the pair travel through the game's stages to find the missing triplets and confront Pete's forces. The premise gives the platforming a clear rescue mission while letting its locations move between fairy-tale-themed dangers and cartoon-styled obstacles.

At its foundation, Magical Quest 3 is built around running, jumping, and using nearby blocks or certain enemies as throwables. Rather than relying on a single attack throughout the journey, the game centers on costumes that change how each hero approaches hazards, opponents, and level layouts. Coins collected during play can be spent in shops to improve some outfits, while hidden doors lead to bonus rooms with card-picking challenges and rewards. These systems encourage players to look beyond the main route for useful items and secrets as they progress.

Mickey and Donald share the standard ability to grab and toss objects, but their three special costume sets give the two heroes distinct tools. Mickey's knight armor uses a shield and glove-tipped lance, while Donald wears a makeshift barrel-and-bowl suit and fights with a hammer. The lumberjack gear supports climbing and enemy handling, and magician costumes use spells to reveal concealed places, change foes, and deal with traps. Donald's barrel can also float and become a perch, and his magical lamp can call up a genie hand; in two-player play, those abilities can help Mickey reach higher ground.

The Game Boy Advance version supports a solo adventure with either character and cooperative play for two players through the Game Boy Advance link cable. Its co-op design makes the characters' different costume functions more than a visual distinction, since one player can create opportunities for the other during stages. Link cable play also extends to competitive mini-games, providing a separate multiplayer activity alongside the main campaign. Cartridge saving replaces the password-style continuation associated with the preceding Magical Quest game, making it easier to return to the storybook quest between sessions.

As the concluding entry in Capcom's Magical Quest trilogy, Disney's Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey & Donald follows the costume-driven platforming established by The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse and Disney's Magical Quest 2 Starring Mickey & Minnie. It is especially notable as the first official release of this particular installment outside Japan: the GBA adaptation localized the previously Japanese-only finale for new regions. For players exploring Disney games on Game Boy Advance, it combines a character-led rescue story, alternate abilities, secret rooms, and link-cable cooperation in a compact continuation of the series.
