About
Pac-Man brings Namco's landmark maze chase to the original Game Boy. Developed and published by Namco, it arrived in Japan in late 1990 and reached North America in 1991.
Guide Pac-Man through a maze, eating every dot to clear the round while keeping clear of Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Fruit bonuses add points, and the side tunnels offer an escape route between the maze's edges.
The four energizers briefly turn the ghosts vulnerable. Eat one to reverse the chase and score for catching blue ghosts before they recover and head back to the central pen.
The small monochrome screen led to a choice of maze displays: a full view that keeps the entire board visible at a reduced size, or a closer scrolling view that follows Pac-Man. That trade-off gives players either broader awareness or a larger view of the action.
A Game Link Cable supports a competitive two-player mode. Each player needs a Game Boy and a Pac-Man Game Pak, chooses a display size independently, and plays a four-round match. The starting and final round can be selected, allowing an experienced player to begin on a faster maze as a handicap.
The result preserves the original's escalating pursuit and score-chasing in a portable form, while adding options tailored to the Game Boy's compact display and link hardware.
