You Don't Know Jack : Mock 2

About

You Don't Know Jack: Mock 2 is a PlayStation trivia party game released in North America in November 2000. Developed by Starsphere Interactive and published by Sierra, it is the second and final original PlayStation installment in the irreverent You Don't Know Jack series created by Jellyvision. Rather than adapting a single computer release, Mock 2 packages material from several late-1990s and 2000 PC entries into a console-focused game show, with an intentionally artificial TV-studio atmosphere, comic interruptions, and a relentlessly sarcastic announcer.

A standard game turns quick recall and fast button presses into a competitive quiz show. Questions arrive under oddball categories that mix general knowledge, popular culture, wordplay, and deliberately misleading setups. Players buzz before their rivals with the PlayStation controller's shoulder buttons, then choose from the displayed answers with the face buttons. Speed matters alongside knowledge: getting in first creates an opportunity to score, while a wrong answer can cost points and leave opponents in a better position.

Mock 2 supports one to three local contestants, making it designed for people gathered around one console rather than a solitary campaign. Players can use their own controllers or share controls as needed, and a compatible PlayStation multitap is supported. The game also works with the DualShock vibration feature. Its scorekeeping and rapid exchanges encourage the momentum of a short game-show episode, while the memory card can retain saved information such as high-score data.

The game retains the series' competitive tricks as well as its ordinary multiple-choice questions. A player can use the "Screw" feature to force a chosen rival to answer, raising the pressure and making a well-timed interruption part of the strategy. Special question formats break up the routine, and the climactic Jack Attack round shifts the focus to association and recognition under time pressure. During that final phase, concealed standings add uncertainty, so a contestant who appears to be behind can still change the result with a strong finish.

Its question pool draws from You Don't Know Jack: Volume 4 - The Ride, You Don't Know Jack: Louder! Faster! Funnier!, and You Don't Know Jack: 5th Dementia, giving the PlayStation release material connected to several eras of the computer series. The production uses three-dimensional polygonal menus and presentation elements rather than simply reproducing the earlier desktop interface. Phil Ridarelli appears in the credits as Schmitty, the off-screen host whose needling commentary, instructions, and reactions make the quiz feel less like a conventional educational game and more like a comedy performance.

Mock 2 arrived at the end of the original PlayStation's life as a distinctly local, controller-driven take on a franchise more closely associated with Windows and Macintosh CD-ROM games. It followed the first PlayStation You Don't Know Jack release from 1999, but it stands apart as its own collection of questions and presentation. For players seeking a late-1990s-style quiz contest with verbal jokes, competitive buzzing, and couch multiplayer, You Don't Know Jack: Mock 2 preserves the series' game-show identity in a format built around the original Sony console.
