About
Linda Cube Again is a Japanese PlayStation role-playing game released by Sony Computer Entertainment on September 25, 1997. Developed by Alfa System with MARS Corporation, it revisits the 1995 PC Engine CD title Linda³ as a substantially reworked version rather than a simple conversion. Its world, Neo Kenya, faces extinction when an asteroid called the Grim Reaper is due to strike in eight years. Ken Challenger and Linda are drawn into a desperate mission to preserve life before the deadline closes in.
The central objective gives this PS1 RPG an unusual identity. An Ark has appeared with instructions to bring aboard male-and-female pairs of the planet's animals, and Ken sets out across Neo Kenya to find them. Exploration, conversations, shops, equipment, and turn-based battles support that search. Success in encounters is not solely about defeating an opponent: players need to manage battles carefully enough to add eligible creatures to their collection, making the growing animal catalogue part of progression as well as the story's larger survival goal.
Linda Cube Again frames that expedition around Ken and his childhood friend Linda, but its scenario structure means the basic crisis can unfold in different ways. The game contains three separate takes on its premise, each set in the same broader world and built around the race to fill the Ark. The required collection targets vary by scenario, so the looming impact is more than background setting; it establishes the pressure behind travel, preparation, and the decision to seek out further animals.
On PlayStation, Again updates the earlier PC Engine CD game with newly produced animated scenes and reworked in-game presentation. It also changes dialogue and character portrayals in places, while retaining the core story and animal-collection RPG foundation. Battle presentation was expanded with backgrounds tied to the surrounding location, and the remake revises encounters and difficulty arrangements. These changes distinguish this version from both the 1995 original and Linda³: Kanzenban, the Sega Saturn edition released the following year.
The result is a single-player, Japanese-language PlayStation RPG whose science-fiction setting and collection-driven objective stand apart from more conventional fantasy quests of its period. Rather than sending its heroes out to save Neo Kenya from destruction, Linda Cube Again asks what can be carried forward after disaster becomes unavoidable. Its unusual Ark premise, alternate scenarios, anime-style story sequences, and blend of exploration with turn-based creature hunting make it a distinctive entry in the Linda³ series.
