About
Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC is a PlayStation Portable rhythm game released in Japan on November 24, 2011. Published by Broccoli and developed by Nippon Ichi Software, it is the first music-game spin-off from the Uta no Prince-sama series rather than another of the franchise's story-led romance adventures. The game gathers the series' songs into a portable performance game built around its idol characters, with music produced by Elements Garden and character designs based on the work of Chinatsu Kurahana.
The central challenge is to follow the visual bars that travel across the screen and press the matching PSP controls in time with each song. Play uses the Triangle, Cross, and Square buttons together with the directional pad, giving the game a deliberately direct, button-based approach to its rhythm action. Difficulty settings span EASY through PRO, so the same collection can accommodate newcomers learning the timing system as well as players working toward more demanding charts.
Its soundtrack contains 31 fully vocal tracks. The selection brings together music previously used across the Uta no Prince-sama games, includes nine songs associated with the television anime, and adds songs made playable specifically for this release. That focus makes each chart a way to revisit the franchise's catalog through performance rather than through the route-based structure of the main games. The opening theme, “Welcome to UTA☆PRI world!!,” features the principal idol cast as STARISH.
The familiar performers are an important part of the presentation. Otoya Ittoki, Masato Hijirikawa, Natsuki Shinomiya, Tokiya Ichinose, Ren Jinguji, Syo Kurusu, and Cecil Aijima appear across the game, connecting the music selections to the characters at the center of the wider series. Completing songs under the required conditions unlocks short character stories tied to individual tracks, supplying scenes between performances instead of a single long campaign. Some songs also award points based on the player's results; collecting the full amount opens character reward scenes, with the cleared difficulty affecting the result.
Progression also feeds into a customization system. Playing earns MUSICPOINT, which can be spent in the in-game shop on parts for the rhythm-game display. Players can alter elements of the screen, including backgrounds, and change the characters' costumes, allowing the visual staging of a favorite song to be tailored over time. These collectible options give successful runs a purpose beyond merely posting a higher score and make the PSP release a music-centered companion to the series' narrative titles.
Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC arrived after the original Uta no Prince-sama had established its PSP identity in 2010 and while the franchise was expanding through games, recorded music, and animation. It launched the dedicated MUSIC line, later followed by Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC2 on PSP and Uta no Prince-sama MUSIC3 on PlayStation Vita. For the series, the game is a snapshot of its early catalog: a compact rhythm collection that puts its vocal performances, idol cast, unlockable scenes, and customizable presentation at the forefront.
