About
Burnout Dominator for PSP is a 2007 arcade racing game developed by EA UK and published by Electronic Arts. It brings the Burnout series' high-speed road racing to PlayStation Portable with a campaign built around aggressive, skill-based driving rather than cautious lap-by-lap racing. The game was also released for PlayStation 2, but this entry is specifically the handheld version, with its own Burnout HQ feature and portable-focused presentation.
Races reward more than simply reaching the finish line. Players build boost by taking risks at speed: threading through traffic, driving into oncoming lanes, drifting through bends, catching air and narrowly missing other vehicles. A full boost meter unlocks Supercharge Boost, and sustaining that momentum can earn a Burnout when the meter is completely drained. Linking the process into a Burnout Chain makes every risky maneuver part of a larger attempt to keep speed and scoring alive.
World Tour is the main single-player route through Burnout Dominator PSP. Its events are grouped around vehicle classes and ask the player to win conventional races, eliminate the trailing driver in Eliminator, beat the clock in Burning Lap, or take down rivals in Road Rage. The game also adds score-led challenges such as Maniac Mode, Drift Challenge, Near Miss Challenge and Burnout Challenge. Those modes make their objectives explicit, turning familiar Burnout habits into focused tests of controlled slides, close traffic passes and uninterrupted boost use.
Record Breaker provides another way to revisit the courses and chase personal bests outside the fixed World Tour event combinations. Cars range across categories including Classic, Factory, Tuned, Hot Rod, Super, Race Special and Dominator machinery, giving progression a steady sequence of new vehicles and events. The action is presented from driving views suited to the series' rapid traffic dodging, while the PSP controls place steering, acceleration, braking, boost and camera functions within the handheld's standard button layout.
Dominator deliberately differs from several recent Burnout games. It restores the Burnout mechanic last associated with Burnout 2: Point of Impact, but it does not include Crash Mode or Traffic Checking, and it has no online multiplayer support. The PSP release adds Burnout HQ, which originally allowed players to send high scores and access additional track downloads. Two post-release PSP tracks, Carnival City and Red Gate, were made available through that service, marking a platform-specific addition to the core route selection.
As a series entry, Burnout Dominator arrived while Criterion Games was working on Burnout Paradise; EA UK handled development of this installment. Its compact structure emphasizes the classic Burnout exchange between speed, traffic risk and boost management, making the PSP game a distinct companion to its PlayStation 2 counterpart rather than a different game with the same name. For players exploring the franchise on Sony's handheld, it preserves a full campaign of races and challenge events while placing its headline Burnout Chain system at the center of nearly every run.
