Petz Fantasy - Sunshine Magic

About

Petz Fantasy: Sunshine Magic for Nintendo DS is a fantasy pet-care simulation published by Ubisoft in North America in 2010. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, it takes the Petz label away from familiar household animals and into a world of magical creatures. It is the Sunshine-themed half of a paired DS release, alongside Petz Fantasy: Moonlight Magic; European and Australian editions use the simpler title Petz Fantasy. The game is a single-player experience built around finding, hatching, and raising unusual creatures rather than completing a conventional action-game campaign.

The central routine begins with mysterious eggs. Once a creature has hatched, the player looks after it through everyday care, including feeding it, cleaning it, playing with it, and learning what it likes. These interactions are meant to help a pet grow, while its individual personality and reactions give the collection a more character-driven feel. The Nintendo DS touch screen is a natural fit for the hands-on care activities, keeping attention on the player’s growing group of fantasy companions.

Magical abilities turn that care loop into more than simple upkeep. Petz can be trained through mini-games associated with powers such as flying, fire, ice, and speed. These short challenges ask players to guide a pet through objectives and avoid hazards, so they provide a change of pace from feeding and grooming. Doing well in the activities is also tied to progression: earning top results can open the way to further creatures, giving players a reason to return to the games as their collection expands.

Sunshine Magic has 20 magic eggs to discover, with one fantasy pet in each. The pets can wear outfits, and their abilities include playful transformations into household objects, a feature framed as a way to conceal them from adults in the game’s fantasy. Its counterpart, Moonlight Magic, has its own separate set of creatures and environment, making the two releases complementary rather than simply two names for the same cartridge. Sunshine Magic is therefore the edition to seek out for its particular Sunshine collection.

Released during a period when Ubisoft was expanding Petz across Nintendo handhelds, Petz Fantasy: Sunshine Magic presents the series in a gentler, magical-pet format. Its focus is on collecting eggs, caring for the creatures that emerge, and improving their skills through repeatable DS mini-games. For players looking for a Nintendo DS Petz game centered on unicorn-like and other imaginary companions instead of cats, dogs, or horses, it offers a distinct branch of the long-running virtual-pet line.
