About
Secret Agent Clank for PlayStation 2 is a 2009 action-platform adventure and Ratchet & Clank spin-off. Sony Computer Entertainment published this PS2 version, which was ported by Sanzaru Games from High Impact Games' 2008 PlayStation Portable original. It places Clank, the usually supportive robot half of the series' duo, in the lead as his tuxedo-clad secret-agent persona. The game arrived late in the PlayStation 2's life and became the last Ratchet & Clank installment released for the system.
The story begins when the Eye of Infinity disappears from the Boltaire Museum and Ratchet is found at the scene. With his Lombax partner imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, Clank investigates the theft and follows the trail through a string of planets and hostile hideouts. The campaign turns the familiar science-fiction setting toward spy-fiction parody: Clank uses an Agency disguise, infiltrates guarded locations, and eventually crosses paths with Klunk, his villainous double from Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Ratchet's prison predicament runs alongside Clank's search, while Captain Qwark recounts increasingly extravagant versions of his own supposed exploits.
Most Secret Agent Clank PS2 stages blend third-person platforming, combat, and brief stealth challenges. Clank can punch enemies with Clank-Fu techniques and equip themed devices including the returning Tie-A-Rang, explosive cuff links, the Tanglevine Carnation, a Blowtorch Briefcase, a Thunderstorm Umbrella, and Holo-Knuckles. Bolts serve as the familiar currency, and the game lets players improve Clank's fighting moves and agent equipment as they progress. Some infiltrations ask for timed button inputs to slip past security, while other sequences use vehicles or turn Clank into Giant Clank for oversized battles.
The campaign also alternates among several playable characters rather than limiting every mission to its title character. Ratchet's prison levels emphasize arena-style firefights and give him weapons smuggled in by Clank. Captain Qwark appears in separate action episodes framed as material for his autobiography, fitting the series' comic treatment of the self-proclaimed hero. In Gadgebot missions, players direct a small Agency team through environmental puzzles, changing the active robot and stacking or separating the group to reach switches, ledges, and blocked routes. This shifting structure brings together shooting, platform traversal, gadget puzzles, and the spy-focused Clank missions in one single-player adventure.
For PlayStation 2 players, Secret Agent Clank preserves the portable game's central story and its mixture of Ratchet & Clank gameplay styles while adapting it to a home-console release. The main appeal is seeing Clank take an active field role rather than appearing only in the shorter puzzle sections associated with earlier series entries. Its Bond-inspired gadgets, the pursuit of the Eye of Infinity, Ratchet's jailbreak subplot, Qwark's comic diversions, and Klunk's return make it a distinct chapter between the larger Ratchet & Clank adventures. As a PS2 port of a PSP spin-off, it is best understood as a standalone Clank-led mission with direct connections to the broader series.
