About

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 3 is Konami's Japanese baseball simulation for PlayStation 2, released in Japan on April 6, 2006. Part of the Pro Yakyuu Spirits series, it presents professional Japanese baseball with a more realistic visual style and on-field approach than Konami's cartoon-proportioned Power Pros games. This PS2 release arrived alongside an Xbox 360 edition, but it is its own 2006 game rather than a later PlayStation 3 entry or a subsequent annual update.

The game is built around complete baseball contests in which players pitch, bat, field, run the bases, make substitutions, and set tactics for a selected club. Match rules can be adjusted before play, including inning length, extra innings, mercy-rule settings, errors, injuries, replays, and player condition. Exhibition play offers a direct way into a game, while the broader menu also includes practice, a home-run contest, trial challenges, and a strike-pitch mode.

At the plate, the left analog stick moves the batting cursor and the player chooses between regular contact, power batting, bunting, and a slap-style swing. Pitching combines pitch selection and location with a timed release in the direct control style; an automatic alternative is available for players who prefer less demanding delivery input. The PS2 game also offers selectable pitch-speed and difficulty settings, distinct camera views, and manual, assisted, or automatic options for baserunning and defense, letting a single match be tailored from accessible to exacting.

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 3 places particular attention on timing and pitch movement. Its Real Batting and Pitching Point options are intended to make the movement of different deliveries matter, while individual pitcher information distinguishes the quality, control, and break of specific pitches. Fielding brings its own choices through cursor settings, defensive-control assistance, throwing styles, and shifts for situations such as bunts, double-play chances, fast runners, and power hitters. A block-sign menu adds offensive calls including hit-and-run, bunt, squeeze, and advancing on a ground ball.

Longer modes provide reasons to manage more than one fixture. The game includes Maji Pennant, MVP Pennant, Management Pennant, and Free Pennant options, with the latter allowing a full or limited schedule and team or single-player control. Its season-management tools cover roster changes, trades, free agents, tryouts, training camp, pitching roles, player evaluation, and statistics. Players can also choose existing athletes or create original players for certain modes, linking on-field performance and team building rather than limiting the experience to one-off matches.

The PS2 version represents the third numbered Pro Yakyuu Spirits game and follows Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2, with Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 arriving the next year. It is a Japan-only release centered on the 2006 professional baseball setting, so its menus and presentation are Japanese-language. For players interested in a mid-2000s Konami baseball game with detailed timing, customizable controls, season management, and a television-style view of Japanese professional ball, Pro Yakyuu Spirits 3 remains a focused entry in the series' PlayStation 2 era.
