About
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix for PlayStation 2 is Rockstar San Diego’s 2006 expanded reissue of the 2005 street-racing game, published by Rockstar Games. The third Midnight Club entry is an arcade-style racer built around high-speed driving through open urban environments rather than simulation handling. Remix retains the original game’s San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit settings while adding a substantial package of new material, making this PS2 release a distinct edition rather than merely a budget reprint.
Career play begins with a modest vehicle and develops through illegal-street-racing events across the three American cities. Races use city streets rather than closed circuits, so reading traffic, choosing shortcuts, and recovering from mistakes matter as much as raw top speed. Event formats include point-to-point contests marked by flares, lap-based circuit races, and unordered checkpoint events that let drivers choose their own route. Autocross and track events offer more contained courses, while arcade options provide additional ways to test a selected vehicle.
Winning events opens access to faster machinery, rival challenges, tournaments, and vehicle clubs. The game divides its licensed cars and motorcycles into categories such as tuners, luxury sedans, SUVs and trucks, exotics, muscle cars, sport bikes, and choppers. Each class has its own character and can earn a special ability through club competition: Zone slows the action for precision at speed, Agro helps heavier vehicles force their way through obstacles, and Roar sends a disruptive blast ahead of certain muscle cars and choppers. Nitrous boosts, traffic, police pressure, and collisions keep races volatile even on familiar roads.
Customization is central to the DUB Edition identity. Prize money and unlocked parts can be invested in cosmetic changes including paint, vinyls, wheels, body components, spoilers, hoods, and neon, as well as upgrades that improve a vehicle’s performance. The DUB Magazine partnership informs the game’s car-culture presentation, with themed events and customized reward vehicles. Players can also build custom ordered, circuit, or unordered races with the Race Editor, setting checkpoint layouts and adjusting conditions such as traffic, weather, and time of day.
What separates Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix from the original PlayStation 2 release is its extra content. It adds 24 vehicles, additional licensed music, more races and battle maps, and Tokyo Challenge, an optional career branch set in a revised version of Tokyo from Midnight Club II. The city expands the game beyond the original three locations and provides its own racing progression. Remix also supports importing save data from the original Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition on a PS2 memory card, allowing returning players to carry their progress into the revised edition.
The PlayStation 2 version supports solo play and local split-screen racing, while its original online features were designed for multiplayer competition of the era. Its red, black, and silver interface distinguishes the Remix presentation from the original release’s blue-and-gold look. For players seeking Midnight Club 3 on PS2, DUB Edition Remix preserves the original game’s open-city racing and deep customization while folding its Tokyo expansion and other additions into one complete console edition.
