About

FIFA 10 for PlayStation 2 is EA Sports' 2009 football simulation, released as FIFA Soccer 10 in North America. Published by Electronic Arts under the EA Sports label and developed for this generation of machines by HB Studios, it brings the long-running FIFA series to Sony's console with the player, club, league and national-team data of the 2009–10 season. The PS2 release arrived in Europe in October 2009 and belongs to the same worldwide FIFA 10 campaign as versions on newer consoles, but it is its own platform-specific edition rather than a direct copy of the PS3 or Xbox 360 game.

A match is played from the familiar broadcast-style view, with one side controlled at a time and the opposing team handled by another player or the computer. Passing, through balls, crosses, shooting, tackling and goalkeeper play are assigned to the DualShock 2's face buttons and triggers, while the analogue stick moves the footballer in possession. Play alternates constantly between building attacks, protecting the ball, finding room for a final pass and defending against counterattacks. Set pieces give the player further chances to score or clear danger through free kicks, corners, penalties and throw-ins.

The FIFA 10 PS2 roster spans more than 30 leagues, hundreds of club sides and a broad selection of international teams, letting players take recognizable squads into individual fixtures or longer competitions. Licensed names, kits and competitions are central to the package's sense of season-to-season football, while the selection of stadium environments and variable match conditions changes the setting around a fixture. Regional packaging also differed: the North American release uses the FIFA Soccer 10 name and had a separate cover lineup from several European editions.

For solo play, the game includes quick matches, tournaments and a Season mode that streamlines a club campaign by handling transfers and finances automatically. Manager Mode gives more control over a chosen side across multiple seasons, asking the player to pick lineups, make transfer decisions, manage budgets and pursue board objectives as results accumulate. Player development is tied to match performance and role, so a long save is about more than simply winning the next fixture; it is also about building a squad that can remain competitive over time.

Be a Pro returns as the mode focused on one footballer rather than an entire team. Instead of directing every position, the player follows a single athlete through matches, works to meet positional expectations and can progress to international selection, including the World Cup. FIFA 10 also expands the PS2 edition's tactical setup with configurable choices such as counterattacking, wide play, pressing, an offside trap, attacking full-backs and zone marking. An opponent report before matches offers a small scouting prompt, while the added Legendary difficulty setting gives experienced players a tougher computer opponent.

On the pitch, this PS2 version stays close to FIFA 09's established foundation, but it refines physical contests and asks for more careful timing in dribbles, aerial challenges and tackles. Day and night fixtures, weather effects and a range of generic and licensed-looking stadium settings help vary the presentation. English commentary in this edition is provided by Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray, reinforcing the television-football atmosphere as play moves between domestic club fixtures and international games.

FIFA 10 PlayStation 2 is also built for shared play on one screen, allowing friends to select sides and contest standalone matches or competition games together. Its mix of approachable controls, configurable tactics, licensed football context and long-form manager or single-player careers made it one of the late annual FIFA releases for Sony's 128-bit console. The release is especially notable for preserving a substantial football package on PS2 while EA Sports was simultaneously pursuing different technical and feature directions on newer hardware.
