About

Family Guy: Video Game! for PlayStation 2 is a 2006 action-adventure based on the animated television series. Developed by High Voltage Software and published by 2K Games, it brought Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, and Brian Griffin into an original, profanity-laced single-player story built around the show’s rapid shifts in tone and cutaway humor. The North American PS2 release arrived on October 2, 2006, joining Xbox and PSP editions in the game’s wider launch.

Rather than make every chapter play alike, the PS2 game divides its 22 levels among three distinct leads. Peter’s eight stages are comic beat-'em-up sequences: he brawls through Quahog locations, clearing crowds of enemies and objects while his head injuries prompt changes in his on-screen persona. The set-up gives the action a deliberately cartoonish frame, with Peter’s escalating misadventures eventually leading to a confrontation with the Giant Chicken.

Stewie’s eight levels take a more traditional action-platform approach. He advances through stages using a laser weapon that can be improved, along with jumps, moving routes, and environmental devices. His mind-control invention is a key wrinkle: at particular moments it lets him take over residents including Lois, Quagmire, Meg, Cleveland, and Death, with each temporary character offering a different useful ability. Stewie’s campaign centers on a clash with Bertram, his rival half-brother, and Bertram’s own plans for global control.

Brian’s six stages change the pace again by emphasizing stealth. Framed around his attempt to clear his name after an accusation involving Carter Pewterschmidt’s racing greyhound Seabreeze, these missions ask players to observe patrols, stay out of sight, and use disguises to pass people who would recognize him. Brian also has to manage distractions associated with his canine instincts, so timing and positioning matter as he moves through places such as the news station and dog track.

The game frequently breaks its main levels for short “non-sequitur” minigames modeled on the series’ abrupt cutaway gags. Completing one grants a temporary advantage, such as a boost to Peter or Stewie’s combat options or a brief invisibility effect for Brian. Quahog landmarks and familiar supporting characters—among them Lois, Meg, Chris, Quagmire, Cleveland, Joe Swanson, Mayor Adam West, and Death—turn up across the separate stories, while the cel-shaded presentation aims to retain the graphic look of the television show.

Family Guy: Video Game! uses voice work from much of the series cast, including Seth MacFarlane as Peter, Brian, and Stewie, alongside Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Patrick Warburton, Mike Henry, and Adam West. It arrived during the show’s mid-2000s return to production and stands as its first console game adaptation, interpreting its characters and comic format through brawling, platforming, stealth, boss encounters, and quick reaction challenges instead of retelling a single episode.
