About

Forsaken 64 is a 1998 Nintendo 64 first-person shooter from Iguana Entertainment and Acclaim. Released in North America under the Forsaken 64 name and as Forsaken in Europe and Australia, it places a combat craft inside the wreckage of a future Earth devastated by a scientific catastrophe. Rather than keeping the player on a flat battlefield, the game sends its action into enclosed industrial spaces, ruined settlements, and twisting underground routes where every wall, ceiling, and drop can become part of the fight.

The defining feature of Forsaken 64 is six-direction movement. Piloting a hovering vehicle, players can thrust forward and backward, strafe, climb, dive, turn, and roll while aiming through a maze of tunnels. That freedom makes orientation as important as firepower: an opponent can arrive from an overhead passage, a side shaft, or behind the craft after a quick loop through a chamber. The controls are built around managing velocity and facing in three-dimensional spaces, so discovering a route and keeping track of a level's layout are essential parts of making progress.

Single-player missions mix exploration with combat objectives. Automated defenses, hostile vehicles, traps, and environmental dangers stand between the player and each stage's exit, while weapons and power-ups are gathered along the way. A sizeable arsenal gives encounters different ranges and rhythms, from direct energy attacks to missiles and mines. Some missions also impose conditions such as clearing threats or meeting a time requirement, encouraging players to balance searching for supplies with maintaining momentum through the level.

Forsaken 64 belongs to the late-1990s wave of console shooters that adapted free-roaming 3D combat for the Nintendo 64. It is related to the Windows and PlayStation game Forsaken, but the N64 edition was handled by Iguana's UK team and tailored to Nintendo's console. The N64 release changes the title in its North American branding and, unlike the PlayStation version, includes local multiplayer. Its campaign and presentation are therefore best considered alongside the original game while still recognizing Forsaken 64 as its own console version.

Multiplayer lets one to four people compete on a single Nintendo 64 through split-screen play, with computer-controlled opponents available to fill out a match. The available competitive formats include free-for-all and team play, as well as flag- and bounty-based variations. Whether playing alone or with others, Forsaken 64 centers on navigating a fully three-dimensional arena, collecting the tools needed to survive, and using the geometry of its environments to outmaneuver opponents.
